Just doing some market research, feel free to answer any:
  • What would you all add or subtract from BG1 for a potential BG2?
  • How important is the plot? Is it better/funnier when it's incomprehensible to the contestants?
  • Is fucking with the contestants' emotions integral to the viewer experience?
  • Related to above, was Jon good or bad for the show?
  • Any pie-in-the-sky ideas that would massively improve a successor?
  • What sort of weaponry makes sense from a progression standpoint? Should contestants be allowed to makeshift high level gear (i.e. Jimmy's flail-sword) or should it be locked behind progression?
  • Were there any game-breaking elements during BG1 that weren't fun or funny?
I don't know what I'd do to subtract, honestly thought the set up, systems, quests, NPCs they all had set up made for a fun watching experience. If there's one thing I'd add is maybe more YGH.

Plot is crucial and the more hand wavey nonsense explanations the better (like when Xavier and Duke had a duel and Xavier pulled the card out that meant the Duke actually shot his own soul, hilarious), that said I think some things should be clear enough to give a idea to the contestants that progression is more important than just kinda idling around most of the day.

Fucking with the contestants I'm iffy on, should be more like happy fun times in the woods but should fuck with them if they're being spergs.

Jon was amazing on BG1. Don't care what anyone says, he was carrying that show on that massive fat roided body of his. Did he derail shit? Yeah? Did he just yap and wanna be the center of attention? Yeah. Yet he provided toooo many stand out moments in BG1 that there's no denying Jon is quite literally the heart and soul of Fishtank for me.

Progression and incentives for weapons, armor, more health need to be more front facing but also should encourage creative play (Jimmy flail sword like you said)

Don't do The Cell for BG2. It was bad enough Jon left but then we got locked in a tower for a good chunk of time and the larp magic went away in favor of Fishtank shenanigans. Which is fine but not for 24+ hours where everything else is out on a massive halt as a result. Also despite how much I don't like Tayleigh, having Xavier joke about he was Q killed the vibes.

  • I think BG1 is near perfect, but I would take out the cell. It felt inorganic. Maybe add some in-story reason they're in the cell, like they're captured by pirates.
  • I think if they keep the plot simple (defeat the Duke) but if they explain it incomprehensibly to the fish, that's funny. Like apply moon logic to how the Duke is killed, with yugioh.
  • No, they fuck with each other enough
  • Jon was good...sometimes. He made for good content, but he was holding up and shit testing production, which holds back the whole team, and that's bad. But that led to the boxing match with Jimmy, and that's good. And purpow wipstick. And that's also good.
  • Fourwheeler Jousting. That is all.
  • If they can think up a weapon, and prove they can use it, then they should be allowed to do it. For instance, if Jimmy wasn't able to utilize the flail-sword, and he hit himself with it, then he shouldn't get it.
  • Making Tay think Xavier was her stalker. Let's avoid that kind of intense shit.

  • What would you all add or subtract from BG1 for a potential BG2?
Add more cameras, both static and give everyone bodycams. There was stuff that happened in BG1 that we weren't aware of until contestants spoke about it afterwards, and many conversations in the Schitty couldn't be heard because the static cam from it was distant. Another thing that wasn't kept up was looting, there was loot on the map but it never got refilled.
  • How important is the plot? Is it better/funnier when it's incomprehensible to the contestants?
It should be comprehendible to keep the cast engaged. If they can't understand what the fuck is going on they'll just burn out faster.
  • Is fucking with the contestants' emotions integral to the viewer experience?
It can be funny but also damaging. Crashouts can hurt the show bad and fuck up the content, e.g. production making Xavier do the stalker bit.
  • Related to above, was Jon good or bad for the show?
Both. He derails the larp and shit tests production which fucks up whatever was planned but is good content in its own way.
  • What sort of weaponry makes sense from a progression standpoint? Should contestants be allowed to makeshift high level gear (i.e. Jimmy's flail-sword) or should it be locked behind progression?
Both can be done, provide them with weapon progression but also the ability to craft stuff, this can be combined by providing them with new items to use for crafting as quest rewards. They can also refill the loot boxes across the map with better loot/items over time as they progress.
  • Were there any game-breaking elements during BG1 that weren't fun or funny?
Production not disabling sound effects and TTS during important larp moments. Sure there were some funny ones but it was mainly just ear rape or unfunny stuff interrupting Xavier or others during important moments.

I could be wrong but I remember hearing that they only did the tower cell challenge because a large number of the staff/NPCs had gotten food poisoning so they needed to do something while everyone was sick. So I wouldn't worry about the cell happening in future BG iterations unless they get sick again.

I don't remember if it was food poisoning but yeah like half of staff and almost all the Schitty NPC's got so sick they had to go home. That's why they brought in Oddbod and Cryo, literally just to have people on set.

Bring Aryeh back specifically to be Xavier's apprentice

I think BG worked really well and just a smoother operation is all I'd change. I think the body cams were a good idea they didn't fully test.
  • How important is the plot? Is it better/funnier when it's incomprehensible to the contestants?
I think the plot will be more impactful with Xavier in charge of it. It's being loose and obtuse was fine with Jet/Sodaman in charge, but I can see Jan having a strick storyline that can also be flexible with the cast.
  • Is fucking with the contestants' emotions integral to the viewer experience?
I don't think BG should ever get to the levels of The Hellhouse side of Fishtank, but making fun of the fish, putting them in situations they are awkward with is integral. I think secret conflicting objectives that put the fish into conflict with each other is good, but there shouldn't be pvp or opposing teams.
  • Related to above, was Jon good or bad for the show?
BG was better at the expense of Jon, not for his involvement. I prefer him sperging and burning out than if he had been coddled to stay the entire run.
  • Any pie-in-the-sky ideas that would massively improve a successor?
Different themes. The Fallout Bunker at the end of Season 4 is an example of how they could expand things. I loved when inflatable costume mutants raided the bunker, I think there is a lot they could do with shorter run but intense and heavily themed set ups. I'd be interested in another fallout tank planned better from the start. I think they could do others like zombies(this is very pie in the sky as they'd need significantly larger numbers of staff/volunteers to do it justice), Vietnam/foxhole/trenches with ranged weapon focus could all have potential.
  • What sort of weaponry makes sense from a progression standpoint? Should contestants be allowed to makeshift high level gear (i.e. Jimmy's flail-sword) or should it be locked behind progression?
Improve weapons are great, I think they should actually have it as a challenge with better supplies.

Putting more general weapon discussion here, airsoft guns were a cool idea, but didn't really work for what they had set up, I think they would be good for something where minimum ranges could be established, but their are better options. Nerf guns, especially low capacity ones would be better for a melee focus idea like Bloodgames, if that wanted to do something with a lot of shooting while running around, they make gel Blasters that shouldn't hurt.

Jon derailing everything by being a jerk is one of the signature parts of the Fishtank experience.

Everyone wanted a Jimmy/Jon fight in BG and we got one too.

It’s nice seeing FT adjacent people discover the absolute cinema that was Deagle nation though. Makes me miss the days when the MDE people were breaking the internet with their hoaxes.
It's still shocking to me that Deagle Nation and Jan were actually connected with MDE the whole time. This was a huge revelation to me during 2.5 when Sneedchat made me aware that Jan actually helped write "How to Bomb the US Gov" with Sam, Nick, and Charls. I still can't believe it. I want Jan in Extreme Peace with the rest of the guys.

I only heard he was loosely associated with MDE years ago, so seeing Xavier in BG and figuring out who was playing him was a real shock.

You're probably not really a wigger but I'll humor you.

1. Add better planning, infrastructure and legal precautions.
2. A loose, easy to follow plot is pretty important. Xavier should be in charge of writing for all LARP related FT content from now on.
3. Gaslighting the fish is a FT staple, but it doesn't need to be hell house levels of crazy.
4. He was Jontent and BG just wasn't the same after he left .
5. There should be a full on LARP spinoff of Fishtank, with different themes like Fallout, space or pirates. The possibilities are endless if they find the right set location.
6. Improvising weapons to circumvent leveling was funny and gave us some great moments like the flail and Jimmy's flamethrower. However, I think a future season would benefit from a more fleshed out progression system for classes, with actual leveling tokens given to the players for completing quests.
7. The pivot to the Cell in the S3 house kinda derailed BG a bit. If it's LARPtank, keep it outside.

This will only fuel Dark Daniel's rise. For all his faults, he knows when to give up and let a bitch go.

Meanwhile, MAJOR SETH UPDATE: he fell asleep in his own vomit last night:
He really is a TRUE and HONEST wigger and I hope he comes back in future seasons.

I’m pretty excited for conGREGated. I ended up wishing I had watched the last one after Frank and Burt showed up, I think he’s going to have a lot of success now that there’s such a hole in the market. If he can just get the Fishtank account to retweet a conGREGated link that should be thousands of viewers. It’s my impression that Greg is still on good terms with the wiggers? It would be pretty funny if Greg mogs them and successfully completes a show without imploding.

On a side note, it occurred to me the other day that Season 1 is the only main season that can really be called “successfully completed”. The back half of Season 2 was unwatchable, Season 3 had the R.V., and obviously Season 4 had some sight issues.
