I don't know what I'd do to subtract, honestly thought the set up, systems, quests, NPCs they all had set up made for a fun watching experience. If there's one thing I'd add is maybe more YGH.Just doing some market research, feel free to answer any:
- What would you all add or subtract from BG1 for a potential BG2?
- How important is the plot? Is it better/funnier when it's incomprehensible to the contestants?
- Is fucking with the contestants' emotions integral to the viewer experience?
- Related to above, was Jon good or bad for the show?
- Any pie-in-the-sky ideas that would massively improve a successor?
- What sort of weaponry makes sense from a progression standpoint? Should contestants be allowed to makeshift high level gear (i.e. Jimmy's flail-sword) or should it be locked behind progression?
- Were there any game-breaking elements during BG1 that weren't fun or funny?
Plot is crucial and the more hand wavey nonsense explanations the better (like when Xavier and Duke had a duel and Xavier pulled the card out that meant the Duke actually shot his own soul, hilarious), that said I think some things should be clear enough to give a idea to the contestants that progression is more important than just kinda idling around most of the day.
Fucking with the contestants I'm iffy on, should be more like happy fun times in the woods but should fuck with them if they're being spergs.
Jon was amazing on BG1. Don't care what anyone says, he was carrying that show on that massive fat roided body of his. Did he derail shit? Yeah? Did he just yap and wanna be the center of attention? Yeah. Yet he provided toooo many stand out moments in BG1 that there's no denying Jon is quite literally the heart and soul of Fishtank for me.
Progression and incentives for weapons, armor, more health need to be more front facing but also should encourage creative play (Jimmy flail sword like you said)
Don't do The Cell for BG2. It was bad enough Jon left but then we got locked in a tower for a good chunk of time and the larp magic went away in favor of Fishtank shenanigans. Which is fine but not for 24+ hours where everything else is out on a massive halt as a result. Also despite how much I don't like Tayleigh, having Xavier joke about he was Q killed the vibes.
