I forget the exact canonical motivations of William Afton but it’s something of a combination of “grieving father” and “mad scientist” which obviously isn’t exactly realistic.

The series hasn't really answered that, probably because Scott Cawthon knows what you do (the part about kid murderers usually being pedophiles.) Even the movie didn't answer that. The closest we have to an explanation is a vague combination between satanic ritual and adrenochrome Pizzagate stuff.

The dude even had to make a response explaining how making FNaF more like traditional horror media does not necessarily make someone a weird creep. There's some things about missing the "point" of the franchise and how subtle you can make it but this is not what I'm here to discuss.

I don't disagree that horror nowadays leans too heavily on shocking viscera rather than actual tension, dread or horror. I also don't believe including those things in a story makes the author a creep. But the series itself has always avoided overt on-screen torture of anybody, even the series' most gory canonical moment was shot in a way more reminiscent of Psycho (obviously violence is happening but you don't see it), changing that makes it more generic and less artful. I have to hand Freddy's autistic fanbase the W this time.

Obviously the lore for FNaF is infamously convoluted but iirc only some of the animatronics are possessed by dead kids. For example my understanding is the the toy animatronics were reprogrammed by the spirits into being hostile rather than being directly controlled.

The ones that aren't possessed so far are the toys, like you said, the Glamrocks, which are basically fully sentient but were hacked into, the phantoms, which are hallucinations, and debatably the nightmares, which are also hallucinations but this time caused by gas.

The main lines (first game), scrapped versions, and fun times are haunted.

I could go into more details about who is and isn't haunted but we'd be here all day.

I recall of an obscure book author who once made a video dedicated to rewriting Security Breach in a way that he found to be fitting. It was a good video as it is but the major problem people had with it was the fact that the comic book visuals had a fair bit of gore in it. There may have been no pedo implications but you can guess how well the broader FNaF community took the video and its colorful visuals. The comment section will give it away if you look in there.

I don't know, honestly. Like any story telling device, you can only use it sparingly in order to leave an impact that doesn't come off as an abused gimmick. It may be possible to implement gore in a way that it doesn't scare away the more sensitive and doesn't involve Atari graphics, but FNaF isn't that type of series to directly show you anyways so I'm conflicted on the whole idea. Especially when most of the fanbase cannot be any older than 17.

Perhaps I'm too used to seeing graphic things happen so my perspective is somewhat skewed. At least the movie did leave me satisfied in that intruder scene.

There's nothing else to expect from a franchise that is known to abuse subtlety to excuse the lack of efficient writing and gameplay. The gore would be the least of my worries as there is more undercooked and unexplained content found within both the games and the anthology book series. The Frights and Tales in particular are a completely different rabbit hole to jump into if you're looking to find Goosebumps tier stories, and those stories get real graphic at times.

Good work, but I think there should be a mention of the “super cancer” and a character being killed by slipping on a bar of soap into a springlock suit since those are the most meme-worthy moments when it comes to BFB’s shitty writing.
