I have a theory about the house:
If I understand it correctly, it has multiple separate living spaces and Caden/Praetor purchased it as an investment property. Of course, it's a tough sell for a normal person to live there because it's out in Bumfuck VA, its architecture is weird, it's on that major road, and who knows what else. So it seems Chris is the only tenant.
But that might be enough. According to the real estate records, it was pretty affordable to purchase, and I'm sure Caden is overcharging Chris. It's probably a fairly stable arrangement. Chris gets his 'tard bux every month no matter what, and Caden probably set up some autopayment arrangement for him to ensure he gets his rent before Chris has a chance to waste it on fast food, toys, sports bras, and whatever other junk he buys. And it's not as if Chris is going to move somewhere else. Could you imagine him shopping for an apartment like a normal person? Giving references, putting down a deposit, etc? He can't do it. So Caden can be virtually guaranteed to keep collecting rent in perpetuity until the place is paid off.
When the alternative is the risk of a tenant losing a job, or relocating, or throwing wild parties, or cooking meth or something, post-jail Chris isn't the worst tenant out there.
