Formula 1 Discussion - And favourite driver?

Honestly if there's someone who deserves the podium it's Hulkenburg as he's a good driver that's been on dog shit teams. I always love when someone can get podium in a backmarker car as that's a true moment to celebrate in motorsports

Hulk's podium cancels out Pastry getting stitched up by the Poms. Absolutely stoked to see Nico have his time in the sun.

As for that penalty, I'm sure the only reason he copped 10 seconds instead of 5 is because he's from the Colonies.

I know you're ragebaiting and I appreciate the attempt, but you forgot to consider that in the majority of his career Hulkenberg was not in a car that could achieve podiums.

The only podium-capable cars he ever drove were the Force Indias (and if we stretch the idea, probably the 2018 Renault) - though he only did 4 seasons full-time with Force India and often languished to more promising drivers like Sergio Perez. Though it is quite ironic that Perez is now the one without a seat because Red Bull are incompetent with their second car.

The rest of his full-time seasons were spent in midfield or backmarker cars like the 2023 Haas and 2019 Renault, and he actually had taken three years off full-time driving from 2020 until the start of 2023, IIRC making a few reserve appearances for RP/Aston Martin.

It was a major shakeup due to the shitty track conditions, so there are also elements of that podium being a fluke like the double Alpine podium last year at Brazil, which I think most people agree with, and is part of the point you're trying to make.

He would definitely need to leave the sport if the majority of his 239 race starts were with a top flight team and he took that long to get a podium though. It would be like Hamilton spending all that time with the all-so-dominant Mercedes cars of 2014-2021 and only achieving a single podium.

Could've just called him a nigger and left it at there chief. The redditsplaining was already done by me.
 
Just read that some drivers are already complaining about the new 2026 regs they testdrove in simulators. Allegedly they fear that they can't just go pedal to the metal anymore due to the bigger batteries that need to recuperate more. Plus the cars are supposedlyx loosing up to 30% downforce which might lessen the burden on the battery but at the same time will recuce topspeeds and make the cars less driveable. Next year sounds like a lot of fun already

Momentum. Britain used to have a very large aircraft industry sector which resulted in lots of engineers who have the perfect CV for a sport like this, along with the finance sector being better connected for the ultra-rich who like this sport. Logistics also works out for the UK because every European race is within trucking distance and planes go everywhere from the UK.
