Formula 1 Discussion - And favourite driver?

Mercs still almost a second faster than anyone else. I think this engine mode thing was not the silver bullet people thought it was gonna be.
Depends on how it'll affect them in the race, but it seems it didn't do much... but it seems to have helped some smaller teams, so at least it did something. In theory, I like that change, but someone really needs to investigate Mercedes, it's surreal how they dominate all other teams.

I didn't think the engine mode thing would really change anything at the front but it adds an extra layer of risk/reward for smaller teams. They can put it in a higher mode for the weekend at the increased risk of something breaking. It makes the driver's job a bit more difficult in the race too because they can't just turn it down for fuel saving/coasting to the end, they need to manage their pace etc themselves.

Teams are not allowed to make performance upgrades to the engine but they are allowed to make reliability upgrades. Part of this change was to stop teams introducing performance upgrades disguised as reliability upgrades. The other was it was too difficult for the FIA to ensure compliance with the rules for fuel flow etc.

There is an investigation into the battery systems on all cars too, the FIA has requested full circuit diagrams for all ERS systems as they suspect some teams may be using extra circuitry to give a higher horsepower boost than is allowed and the extra circuitry is masking it from the FIA sensor.

Pundits after qualifying: hurr durr the engine mode ban hasn't changed anything

Pundits 15 laps into the race: the engine mode ban has made so many changes.

What is it with these "oh car stopped better get the safety car out" decisions. It was a million miles off the track right next to an opening, just drag it in. Fuck this shit it ruins the strategy of the race because every fucker just does their one stop.

If Hamilton gets less than stop/go then fuck this.

Wtf is with this red flag though jfc, and since when do the cars have to line up in the pit lane instead of on the grid?

Ferrari continues to disappoint.
Truer words have never been spoken.
First a complete brake failure, now Leclerc crashes... for a second, I thought it was due to another brake failure. Fortunately, both are safe.

Though I have to say, when I imagine I'm sitting in a car going 300kph and the brake just does absolutely nothing... that's fucking scary, thank god it happened at one of the few places where Vettel could just continue straight through a few styrofoam barriers. Imagine this happening after one of the long straights before a hard turn, this could have been a lethal accident. jfc.

Edit: In German TV, former Mercedes Driver Rosberg said it is absolutely inconceivable how a car can have such bad areodynamics, to have the rear snap around like it did with Leclerc. The tyres were cold, but even so, this is crazy.

Yeah, it was clear we would see most effect during the long race, not in the qualifying... even though it had quite a significant effect, given the lineup of drivers we ended up with. Didn't beat Mercedes down, but helped some others up. Seems good in my view.

That little gap is not an "exit" it's just a place where Marshalls sit, there is not enough room for a car and it might hinder them, in case they need to (for instance) run out and help a crashed driver. Removing it was only possible via pushing it down the straight, so there's that.

Yeah... At least that'll give us some more action also edit functions are your friend.

Look at Bianchis crash, they don't want a repeat of that I suppose. Leclerc's car is stuck in a very bad place and they need to reset the barrier.

I thought they had changed the rules to prevent tyre and parts changed under red flag?

I see lewlew has used to opportunity to go crying to the stewards, you broke the rules deal with it. All the commentators running with "he dindu nuffin, he a good boi" as usual.

Well it definitely wont be the shortest race in F1 history now!

But FINALLY!! A fucked up race! Imagine if every race was this messed up. We'd be crowing about it for days after! HAHA

I *HOPE* we get a podium without any of the big 3. When was last time that happened?

But man, its going to be a fucking dogfight between the top 10 after Lewis gets called out for something for a change. Imagine though if he comes back and wins the race, these fuckers will be calling for a statue to be erected at the track.

I would like to see Bottas and/or Vestappen being able to take advantage of Hamilton being penalised but they're way down so let's just hope for an interesting rest of the race with a mixed up podium. Merc are going to be fucked by their own arrogance here, build a car to lead but that can't overtake, well here you go have two cars stuck in the pack.

Excellent, grid start. It's at the race director's discretion but they usually choose safety car start.

German commentators were baffled why no one except BAWmilton went for a pitstop until news popped up that Hamilton and Giovinazzi were unter investigation for entering pitlane while it was closed, they were in favor of a punishment. Pretty interesting to note that this supposed superstar of F1 does not know where to look for the signs of the pitlane being closed, he had to ask that while he was in the pits. What a joke, this guy can drive a car fast, no doubt about that, but for everything else, he needs his pit crew. I swear to god, if they didn't tell him to take a right turn upon leaving his garage, he'd end up going the wrong way.

LOL, get ready boys, I will be amazed if there isn't a pileup at Turn 1. And Mercedes cars aren't very good passing from what i understand, they are built to be fast out front since they know they are always on the front row for pretty much every race.

I want to see both Sainz and Gasly win! Kind of would be chuffed if Stroll wins too given he would only be 3rd Canadian I believe to win a GP.
