Weird. Chapter's already over after a year. Quickest turnaround thus far. New island. Game now uses unreal 5.1, so apparently there's been a massive visual update.

The end of chapter event was pretty lame. Took around fifty minutes and, as people are saying, it felt like an overstuffed custom game.

I have come back to play this after not touching it since like season 2 or 3. Lumen and UE5 are beautiful. It is really one of the best looking games out right now. No build is pretty fun, I like it more than Warzone 2. Seeing all the character variety is nice, reminds me of Timesplitters in a lot of ways. They have added so much since I last played this.

The end of the current season is coming to a close in about a week, and I gotta say, I'm really enjoying it.

The new map is interesting. There is still a distinct lack of verticality in the map and it isn't fully developed yet, but I'm having more fun with it than I did the Chapter 3 map at the same point in that map's development. In a few seasons--once they start adding the really crazy shit--this map is gonna be bonkers fun to play around in.

Other season features worth talking about:

1. The Augment System started out pretty shitty, but once you unlocked the better augments it became a lot more fun. There is nothing truly gamebreaking there, but dumb things like generating balloons or low gravity jumps add variety to matches and help you out in subtle ways rather than just making you overpowered. My favorite, but ultimately useless, augment is the one that fully upgrades any car you get into.

2. Capture Points. I never really understood the point of this. In exchange for capturing a named location, it pings all the chests/enemies in that location for a brief period of time. Wasn't actually all that helpful because if you captured a point that usually meant you already killed everybody in a named location. Probably would have made more sense if it generated a guaranteed legendary weapon. You know, to give people a reason to fight over it.

3. The Heat Event/Heat System. This was a two week event that rewarded you for making kills by giving you OP augments like faster move speed and health regeneration. I had a lot of fun with it because it meant I didn't have to scrounge for potions and could focus on killing. Shame it went away so quickly.

ah the memories playing with friends and getting screamed at for not winning a 50 story skyscraper build battle

i actually like the no building game mode as i completely suck at building and can just charge onto the enemy without getting jebaited by some dumb instaedit
If you don't like the base building wouldn't it make more sense to play a PUBG or something like?

Part of me is seriously considering picking this game up; I've been hesitant about jumping into Battle Royale games for a while - last BR I played was Blackout for BO4 - but part of me is really wanting to give this game a shot.

What do you guys think? Play or skip? Mostly a casual kind of player myself, but I'm willing to give anything a try.

The game is pretty casual-friendly. There are no classes or skill unlocks, so you don't lose progress by not logging in every day. There are a ton of game modes in addition to the battle royal, so there's plenty there to explore. They also just had a massive visual and character movement overhaul, so even though the game was made in 2017, it feels and plays like a new game.

Been giving the game a look for the past several weeks, and I have to say; it's pretty fun! Like you guys said, pretty beginner friendly, and I feel like I've gotten a solid grasp on most of the mechanics. I've been doing a ton of the challenges as well; they've been giving me a lot of exp and stuff for the battlepass, which is nice.

This does make me wonder; does anyone have any idea on what the next season for this game will bring? I know there's been a bunch of leaks about the next update having a tropical/desert theme, but anything else? I've seen some stuff about a "skin survey" that seems to be getting a lot of traction these days - there's apparently a tiger skin that was leaked over a year ago that has gotten some apparent updates, for some reason - but anything official?

They tend to hide a bunch of small easter eggs in the map or npc dialogue about what's to come, but I've noticed I haven't run into as many this season as the previous ones, not sure if that's a luck thing or them just not being there, haven't checked myself to see if I missed weird hidden side-plots. Closest thing to the weird hint stuff right now right now seems to be the monoliths slowly rising around the map and the fissures in the ground. Well, those and the fact that the hot springs area seems to be on a dormant volcano which people have been theorizing is gonna erupt and destroy the city area for a while now.

Also there's the shit that's the main story line quest stuff from this season and last season that are probably gonna merge together somewhat.

From a more macro perspective, next season is the summer season, so I'd expect the snow-covered portions of the map to recede. My best guess is that the frozen lake will unfreeze and become the 'party zone' for the summer season.

I kinda wish the water world style map from a few seasons back stayed a bit longer before the water eventually receded, it was a pretty neat map-wide gimmick to have just a series of smaller islands and ships. Similar case with the blimps that acted as fast travel points if you knew how to use the cannons from a bit more recent times before they were destroyed, though that wasn't the same season. Stuff that makes travelling more fun and less of a slog is always a bonus. I've seen a lot of complaints online about the weapons that serve this kind of function and IIRC last reason they nerfed the shit out of the hammer before removing it entirely due to this kind of whining, at least the spiderman-esque stuff is back in the form of the attack on titan gear for now.

I just hope that we get that tiger skin that's been leaked; it looks pretty cool, personally, and it's been hinted at for quite a while, apparently.
