i don't see any reason why he couldn't just make a game using his artstyle though
i'd even go so far as to say it might be better (mostly as in "less done to death") than identical troonslop retro pixel platformer #6000003 or indie psx boomer shooter #inf
i doubt he would encounter massive problems drawing things that a computer can shit onto the screen instead of debugtexture4.png
instead of moving all his stuff into the perfect positions himself he can just save all the various layers separately and get a computer to do that later (a time-honored tradition employed by countless 2d games)
