Friday Night Funkin - Getting freaky on a friday night

I'm placing my bets this game is going to end in disaster.
Betting it all on black.

Also iirc, I think there was some shipping drama surrounding this Friday Night Funkin game a little while ago where shippertards wanted the main character to be gay and paired the male character with his rival despite him already having a girlfriend and the game's creator said it was canon as a joke, but then he was called homophobic for it so he backtracked and called them canon on Twitch along with some developer on Newgrounds.

Are we talking about Pico X Boyfriend? Who do I blame this on? The guys who can't keep their hands off their dicks as they're playing a game? Or lonely women who'll never get in romantic relationships so they'll ship random characters as an "escape"? Or both?

It's both, but what should be more worrying is how the majority of the underage fanbase just decided PicoXBoyfriend was the new canon. Anyone who seriously gives that much of a fuck over gender/sexual identity 98% of the time is some 14 year old with too much internet time.

I'm curious to see how much they'll make by the time it's over. They're on their way to meeting the +5 Additional Weeks stretch goal as we speak.

Oh boy, no point to guess, it's gonna be a complete trainwreck caused by people attracted to this type of games. Really, anyone who plays any kind of rhythm games is 99% likely to be a cancerous weeb or a straight up autist. Except Audiosurf. Audiosurf was alright, because it's fucking dead for years now.

Clone hero's pretty fun. But then again I used to be a guitar hero/rock band autist so that's right up my alley.

Yeah, hever played it, but gotta admit, their community is the most bearable out of other rhythm games. Maybe because its core orbits around rock songs, not anime openings.

I'm still on record thinking that this entire Kickstarter was someone trying to launder money, but that's almost entirely because I'm still shocked that a fucking Flash Game, in 2021, managed to make over a million in less than 3 days. At this point, I'm just tempted to grab popcorn and see what happens - Kickstarter stretch goals don't tend to end well once you go beyond a certain scope, and they're well past that.

My only real hope from this isn't even related to FNF, rather it's that Mahan sees how much this got and finally throws up the Yandere Simulator Kickstarter, just so I can watch that dumpster fire.

Kinda interesting given that Friday Night Funkin hasn't even been out for more than half a year and it already has one of the most obnoxiously cancerous communities. I enjoy the game don't get me wrong, but the shipping, the pretentious modding scene (Everywhere at the end of Funk, bbphazu), the annoying canon and lore writers for a game that sports non-existent canon and lore, the insane amounts of porn especially on DeviantArt. It's not the worst community I've ever seen, but it's rivalling FNAF in terms of how annoying.

I really wanna see the pico's school remake stretch goal for my beep beep boop man game.
I don't really mind the community. Homo whining aside it has that fun autistic hyperactive quality that I miss in fandoms and the devs like to play along, even jokingly putting an image of some lil' kid on youtube's boyfriend recolour in the files.

My money is still on Konami suing these chuckleheads into the dirt. They don't even have the flimsy excuse of "oh we tilted the playfield at an angle as the default so it's different".
Why would konami care when they've pivoted to making most their money from totally not casino machines?

Outside of the obvious baits for the unpleasant masses (pretty colors, cartoony artstyle, easy avalibility and a pinch of internet culture influence) I kind of think many people hopped on the hypetrain because of it's uncommon genre.
Almost like FNF became a reason to get into something you've heard of, but didn't yet bothered to check out because the fundamental games of that type seem too intimidating, or being too lazy to fiddle a bit with additional software or emulators. Like FNAF became "baby's first survival horror", or Undertale as "baby's first Earthbound or generally an RPGMaker game". And FNF slowly becoming a "baby's first DDR"

Can one of you zoomers explain to me why this game is so popular? One of my friends coerced me into playing it and it didn't wow me at all. The music is whatever and the character designs are fine, I guess, and I can't figure out what this game has going for it beyond that.

I'd agree with you except you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that still gives a shit about DDR like they did when it blew up in the USA with mixes 1-8. Also FNF isn't like what In The Groove was (a modified StepMania that they were sticking into DDR cabinets before building their own cabinets for the game) when they were getting their asses sued.

I'd say it's a case of the combination of those elements plus the creepypasta-lite bits and the all over the place difficulty curve.
