Bob Marley died of melanoma, which started in his big toe, and spread to the rest of his body. He inherited the genetic risk factor from his dad, Norval Sinclair Marley, who died when Bob was 10, at the age of 70 or 74, of the same disease.
But the fascinating, and sad fun fact here I'd like to address, and what I was getting to was, Marley could have, and should have, had his toe chopped off, and, despite leaving a bullet in his body as a symbol of his struggles, which, for years, is thought to be what killed him eventually, due to blood poisoning (of which there was none whatsoever) he told his doctor no, because he couldn't bare the, in his mind potential embarrassment of hobbling around on stage. No one would've given a toss, but... pride before a fall.
