The magnum in Halo: combat evolved is so over powered because of a last minute programming change that multiplied the intended Dam output in the games code. When the map loads in an extra zero is added to the base dam.
Similarly, the leaders in the first civilization game had an “aggression” rating, and Mahatma Gandhi was given the lowest score possible so he’d rarely if ever go out of his way to declare war on someone. Fitting his nature as a peaceful protest icon. However if a player adopts a democratic approach in Civilization, their aggression would be automatically reduced by 2. if Gandhi goes democratic his aggression doesn't go to -1, it loops back around to the ludicrously high figure of 255, making him as aggressive as a civilization can possibly be. This is all due to a programming bug and the fact that the computers at the time couldn't program civ to recognize negitive numbers.
Speaking of civilization, There's a game of Civilization II that was started in 2002 and is still going on, and it's a hellish Orwellian nightmare
