Late, but re earlier month observations about mff.
From outside the furry sphere, it appears the female and non creepy male furries are abandoning ship for cosplay conventions. Theres always a handful of fursuiters at these and that number seems to be growing. I spoke to a few and the voice was the give away (as well as the sanity and humility) that there are actual female fursuiters there. Few troon fursuiters. Gay men yes.
Which isn't to say other cons don't have a growing troon problem (they do) but it would from casual observation seem that:
Non furry conventions that will welcome a fursuiter are the bolt hole for females/gay men who aren't going to the lgbtqhiv+ fur cons. They aren't a huge number but it kinda makes sense. They get to suit and largely get either admiration for the suit quality, laughs for being an obscure video game reference, or ignored.
The troons as these conventions I am guessing find a fursuit too modest or too much effort when they can throw on a cheap Chinese costume with mini skirt spinny, or try for goth/fetish and play toe the line with dress code rules.
I'm not an avid con goer but it struck me a few years ago pre covid I was seeing fursuiters outside their context and it wasn't the crazy 24/7 lifestyle furries.

I've seen a bunch at anime/cosplay conventions this year too, including small local ones. Mostly partials though (which are easier to wear in a busy environment filled with cosplayers and geeks).
Honestly at this point i'm surprised anyone would want to go to a dedicated Furry convention except to contract HIV or invent a new pizza topping.

So then basically having ruined their own con circuit, furries are now going to move on to contaminate cosplay conventions too? Because even though it's the "sane" (lol) ones quietly migrating over now, soon enough it'll start attracting the undesirables too.

Rule of thumb I’ve heard about fursuiters at anime conventions is about 0.5% to 2%. Heard this from someone who volunteered at anime cons for years.

They did it literally this year too. It's just a staple of MFF now. They were even in the dealer's den handing out free condoms.
I really don't see why it upsets people. The fandom convention scene is very sexually active and it is mostly gay (or bi) men. AIDS/HIV testing and free condoms is only a positive thing.
A surprisingly large number of female furries are suiters. From the people I know personally that attend conventions, a large majority of the women are suiters, while a small percentage (like maybe 20%) of the men are (I am counting "trans women" in men, to clarify). All anecdotal of course, but you see the same thing online. I honestly can't even name a single prominent male fursuit maker off the top of my head. They're basically all women.
I wouldn't expect much from it. It's been a thing for a looooong time. It's typically local furries who only have one actual furry con, so they branch out to anime/comic/nerd conventions just to have an excuse to suit. Even as far back as the early 2000s I saw fursuiters at small, local comic conventions.

Fursuit makers afaik are all women be they cis or pooners or they them genderfeels. I only know of a few makers who have a male partner that assists and those are often troons. For some reason I know of more pooner makers than normal women. I may have just stumbled into a cluster since I sort of meander my way through social connections when perusing things vs searching out who is popular and has the drama.
That *is* odd now that I think about it because while sewing you can say is more females, there's a lot of maker-adjacent shit there too. And where there's female hobbies there's usually some faggot who wants to be fabulous making a name for himself as the queer with fashion sense. That is bizzarely absent in this case.
As far as fursuiters themselves though, I see a lot of female suites online these days of the "i have a furry themed only fans" variety who i assume have figured out theres plenty of furry deviant money to be made. And less competition if you're conventionally pretty and young. none of those seem to attend consider though (no shock really). Their suits are for the gram and fans. What I see from con photos and reports skews much more male for suiters. most of the suites I have heard of getting cancelled were also male.
But this is all really anecdotal on both sides I suspect.
It would be mildly interesting to know the percentage of suites of either sex in context but furries are mostly insufferable gender havers and woke as all fuck so that question will never get asked or answered honestly.
Although my observations are largely burgerland centric. I have little idea what the Fandom in Europe is doing.

To clarify, what I meant is that the percentage of that gender that fursuits. There's definitely way more male fursuiters overall, but that's because something like 90% (rough guesstimate) of a fur con's attendees are male.
I hadn't even considered this, tbh. Forgot that was a thing. I'll never understand it, but I guess it makes money.

Don't even have to be conventionally pretty. Just be 1 - a woman, 2 - not completely obese, and 3 - the owner of a pair of tits that don't sag down to your bellybutton.
