Initial thoughts from watching the Ronaldo interviews (just finished)
There wasn't much here I wasn't expecting. I expected him to say some things were not as they seemed publicly behind closed doors. After finding out the Barca and PSG hire social media teams to say bad things about players online, I could definitely see United leaking things to the press to hurt Ronaldo. I don't think Ronaldo helped himself at all with countering this. I don't know if Ronaldo knew he was playing this game or not, but this interview seemed like it was him basically giving up and admitting he lost the game.
A lot of this was fluff. Granted, I can see why he went to piers morgan. This interview had piers nearly drooling down Ronaldo's dick and balls all the way to his waxxed butthole. I guess it had to be done to get the interview but it makes watching the full interview awful. And it sucks that the full interview is awful because the clips and media commentary is going to be fully taken out of context.
I think a lot of what he said was true. In part 1, he brought up nearly going to City. I remember the transfer saga with City. There was real desire to go there from both parties. Cities front line was fucking terrible and they needed someone who could just stand in front of the goal and score. So when City came out and said they had absolutely no interest in him, it made me realize that there are a lot more truthful things being said here than what I initially thought.
Most of this has been said before. When he talked about the Glasers and the board at United not caring about the sport and only interested in the profit, this was said by a lot of ex players, including Ibra. So him coming out to say this shouldn't be seen as a surprise by anyone.
What will come of this? My theory is that Ronaldo wasn't able to play the game with the press. He had too much of an ego to sit by and cheer on everyone else while secretly working to leave the club. I don't know if he has ever had to play this kind of game before and it really caught him off guard. I think he might have had a chance to go to a lower team that could compete but financially it wouldn't work. I think United might have wanted some money and the financial situation looking at things was just too much for some clubs to even attempt. I think Ronaldo might be thinking this is a way to completely eliminate his contract and go into January with a fresh start. Also, this is probably the best time for him to get onto a club looking to win. Nobody is going to think about signing Ronaldo in the summer when they are thinking about putting a team together. But when a team is trying to make a push for *something* competitive, January doesn't give a lot of good options. Ronaldo might actually be able to sneak his way into a squad as a free agent and an ability to properly negotiate a contract.
@Hüftpriester I don't think he wants to become a life guru. I think he wants to go around being paid to give speeches at events. That's what his broken english sounded like to me
