Him, lampard, and Gerrard probably found their ceiling and its mid table clubs in the championship. I will say, Rooney, Gerrard, Henry, and to an extent Gary Neville deserve some props in the managerial space. Gerrard went to a non royal family funded Saudi club and is still managing there which doesn’t sound fun at all. Rooney went back to MLS to get more experience and took a licking at Birmingham but still kept going. Henry was a head coach and it didn’t work out but he put aside his ego and became an assistant again to keep learning. And Gary Neville realized he doesn’t have what it takes so he never jumped back in
 
Other than Everton, who will the other 3 clubs be that get to the Champions League? I'm thinking Arsenal, Chelsea and then one of the shit teams.

I actually think things will stay as they are, especially with the new ownership likely to throw them a bone this Winter window. In my eyes, Southampton are trying to ape the Brentford and Brighton model with risk-incentive youth purchases. Wolves are still having to play safe with it's finances, something that will be completely undone if they sack O'Neil before a plan B is locked in. Palace might be the acceptation but they being watched like prey, with many of it's core players targeted by the upper pack of the table. Personally I'd rather Nottingham Forest go down to see how many of the mercenaries flee.

I am tired of seeing this fraud get linked with every fucking job. Dude got carried to the Champions League win in 2021 due to Pep shitting his pants in the champions league final (even though they dominated them), Real Madrid being in between dynasty teams again, and the EPL being a joke of a league at the time. This was the year that Manchester United comfortably got 2nd with Ole Gunner Solskjaer, Liverpool had their honeymoon period after winning the prior season, and both Leicester and West Ham got into the Europa League. Spurs had already begun falling apart, Arsenal weren't the team they are now, Newcastle were just taken over by the Saudi Monarch, Brighton didn't discover their model yet, and Aston Villa were still being coached by Gerrard. The game has passed him by and he proved that at bayern

He just won't accept going down to the Championship again to improve his coaching credentials. He did extremely well with Derby County (pushed for promotion) but doesn't want to go back and try it again.


Speaking of the Championship, since its international break and nothing important is really happening, why not get a brief overview of the Championship.

Through 9 games, top of the league to the last playoff spot is separated by 3 points, last playoff spot to relegation is separated by 9 points, and bottom of the league to safety is separated by 3 points (fun little logic/math problem for you guys :) )

The surprise of the season at the top right now is Sunderland, who lead Sheffield United on goal difference for top of the league. Burnley sit in 3rd so they are doing well without Kompany at the moment. Oxford Utd and Derby County, both of whom got promoted last year, are mid table with 12 points while Portsmouth, the final promoted team, are tied for last with Cardiff City. QPR makes up the final team in the relegation zone, one point off safety which is currently being occupied by last year's EPL participant Luton Town. Rooney seems to have bounced back with Plymouth Argyle sitting in 14th right now which is much better than last year when they barely survived. Other notable clubs and their placement in the table


Leeds - 5th
Watford - 6th
Norwich City - 7th
Middlesbrough - 9th
Swansea - 11th
Sheffield Wednesday - 15th
Stoke city - 17th
Milwall - 18th

The funny story from the championship (not sure if covered already) was from Preston North End's player Milutin Osmajic who was suspended for 8 games earlier this month for biting Owen Beck of Blackburn. Beck, who is on loan from Liverpool (full circle here Suarez) was bitten like a vampire from the Montenegrin international. Preston sit 19th in the table, but somehow tied that game so maybe more biting is needed to survive

This is now looking even more likely as Sky has reported he is in the pole position for the job.

There were reports that Pep Guardiola had also been contacted over the position but it looks more likely he'll sign an extension at City instead.

Lampard is great with youth development, but it's apparent that the melodrama at Chelsea isn't something he could handle in his second run. I'd personally like to see him try again in the Championship or below. If he genuinely wanted to prove some doubters wrong he'd go to QPR and see if could save them from League 1.

As for the Championship roundup, the Sunderland run of form does not shock me. The moneyball system that Brentford and Brighton made trendy is doing Sunderland really well. But much like Brentford, Sunderland will discover it becomes much harder to farm talent when you've got the Premier League tag. Just look at all the transfers poached from them in the past three years by Spurs and other teams. Be a completely different squad had they completed.
 
Tuchel is the Dunning-Kruger effect personified in Football Manager form.
