Not gonna lie, the gimmick aspect is silly but not enough to ruin the entire thing.

So far, the competition has been top-notch. Fuck Palmeiras, but they held themselves together and could have won against Porto if they had bit more caliber in their shots. Even I groaned when Vitor Roque wasted that open chance.
Later today the other Brazilian powerhouse makes its debut. Now that I will be up until 10pm to see.

Huge news dropped in Germany!

As you might know we have the so called 50+1 rule in Germany:

Wikipedia said:
50+1 rule is an informal term used to refer to a clause in the regulations of the Deutsche Fußball-Liga (German Football League). The clause states that, in order to obtain a license to compete in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, a club must either wholly- or majority-own its association football team. In case of majority ownership, the football team is operated as a separate company, of which 50% of the votes plus one vote must belong to the parent club, while the rest of votes belong to the investors. The rule is designed to ensure that the club's members retain overall control via owning at least 50% + 1 of the club's shares, protecting them from the influence of external investors.

You also might know that there are a few exceptions, Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg. Leverkusen is owned by the Bayer company and Wolfsburg club is owned by VW. Both clubs are way older and longer in ownership of these companies than the 50+1 rule itself exists.

What you might not know tho is that there was a case brought up to the Bundeskartellamt (Federal Cartel Office) regarding this rule. The case tackled 3 issues:

1. Are the exceptions for Leverkusen and Wolfsburg actual legal or not?

2, The case of RB Leipzig. The Red Bull GmbH (the company producing the energy drink Red Bull) owns 99% of the club. The football club has a very restrictive membership policy and right now has only a few members hand selected members (around 20), who are coincidentally all 1. all employed by the Red Bull company, 2. employed in higher positions and 3. very wealthy.

3. Hannover 96 - The situation here is a bit complex and full of legal shithousery that I myself don't fully understand. The short version is:
The club of Hannover 96 is not only active in football but also in other sports. The whole club is represented by the Hannoverscher Sportverein von 1896 e. V.. It also holds the highest authority on decision makings and the club members have a say here. In 1999 this legal construct decided to outsource the football part in it's own legal construct, the Hannover 96 GmbH & Co. KGaA. President of this new legal construct is a guy named Martin Kind. There is a legal war ongoing within the whole club of Hannover 96 about the issue who controlls what parts and has Martin Kind to follow orders from e.V.-part of the club.
You might remember that last year we had this huge thing going on where a majority of the 1. and 2. Bundesliga clubs voted to open both leagues to investors. This led to massive fan protests and in a later, 2nd vote the decision was reversed. One of the key figures in the 1st vote was Martin Kind who represented Hannover 96. The vote itself was secret but it was soon pretty well etablished which club representative voted for investors and who voted against it. And this is where it get's spicy. Allegedly the e.V.-part of Hannover 96 advised Martin Kind to vote against it. But allegedly he gave a fuck and voted for investors. Confronted about it he didn't give a definite answer and quoted the secrecy of the vote.
The e.V. finally managed to kick Martin Kind from his position but he is now fighting the legal fight against this decision.
So the legal matter for the FCO was about kicking Martin Kind was legal or not.

The FCO gave their ruling today:

1. No fucking exceptions anymore!
2. Fuck RB Leipzig! Open the membership to everyone or GTFO of football!
3. Fuck Martin Kind!

But here is the thing. The FCO is not an actual legal court. Their ruling is more to be seen as an advice what to do, as an suggestion. So there is no legal binding to their ruling. But if the DFL (the legal construct ruling over 1. and 2. Bundesliga) doesn't do what the FCO "suggests" then the doors are open for a shitload of law suits; against RB Leipzig, Leverkusen and Wolfsbrug, the DFL itself, by any of the in the two Bundesligen involved clubs, random fan group or random fan. So basically the DFL better does what the FCO "suggests" or they will get legally buttfucked sooner or later.

Today is a good day for German professional football.

No seriously, this Club World Cup is rocking my socks off. Right now, the piss-poor Boca Juniors that couldn't get into the Libertadores group phase and fumbled to an early exit in their domestic league is now applying a firm victory upon Benfica.
Down here, no one believed they could do it - myself included, thanks in part to having played like ass all year long, and for our penchant for overhyping any half-decent European side. Never have I been so happy to be proven wrong, and I'm not even a Boca fan by any means!

This is I love football and why it is the best group sport in the world, holy fucking shit.

EDIT: Once again, I jinxed it. I should stop posting these praises while the game is still on.

Boca vs Benfica was a really fun match.

The low attendance for the Chelsea game was also fun.

Edit: People give FIFA a lot of shit but I think we should complement them. We should complement FIFA for finding the fucking most annoying snippet of music and their ability to drill it into everyone's ears and minds. If I hear this nananananananananana one more time, just fucking one more time, I'm going to punch something or someone I swear.

I'm fully expecting the race hustlers to come out of the woodworks if Robertson makes a move to Atletico which isn't a move likely to rankle Liverpool supporters, I think. You're going to get an apples to oranges comparison of Arnold and Robertson and ALL context ignored. One is a homegrown lifer entering his prime who left on a free to a detestable club and jerked around the supporters with hope and cope instead of just letting them know from jump he'd be leaving. Wouldn't even allow his boyhood club to get a fee for him. The other isn't even an Englishman let alone a Scouser, who was bought, who would be joining an underdog club as his career begins winding down. But because one is black and one is white we'll get the normal song and dance from the usual suspects, ignoring the fact that Arnold will receive more scorn because he means more to Liverpool supporters.

The Ulsan-Mamelodi match had to be pushed to an hour later because there was a storm brewing in the region.
Florida weather strikes again.

If one thought the European teams would have it easy, they got it very wrong. Borussia and Inter bottled it completely.

And Real VARdrid couldn't beat Al-Hilal even with a questionable penalty given by the VAR. All is well in the world. :story:

I hope they do. One of the few things that will get the UK to be uncucked is these retards going after their sport

Yesterday we had another electrical storm that caused a delayed match. This time it was the Pachuca vs. RB Salzburg game, which took almost two hours to restart its second half in... Cincinnati! And here I thought that the storm the day before was a one-off event in a state well known for its unpredictable weather.

Anyways, today we start the second round of the group phase.

Viktor Gyokeres rejects Juventus’ offer of five-year contract with annual wages worth €13m. Juventus were ready to submit a bid to Sporting which was worth in excess of £60m to buy the Swedish striker, 27.

Dude has such a hard-on for the PL it's insane. Gives me the same vibes as Ivan Toney twerking for clubs last year only to end up conceding for the Saudi league on deadline day.
I still can't get over how dogshit he was in his loan spell for Swansea City, and now he appears to be one of the most coveted strikers.

I'm not opposed to the Club World Cup ideologically like most people because South Americans and Africans really care about it but when the fuck do these guys at the elite level get a break. I think superclubs are gonna have to have massive squads going forward because holy shit

He gets basically one move right now. I wouldn't blame him for going to a club that might actually win something big and Juve are probably pretty far off from that. With that in mind, he might end up going somewhere awful and I will end up eating my words here

I think this is just a test run for not only the world cup next year, but for this competition as well. Just get a bunch of ideas out there, see what does work and what doesn't work. Figure out why the things that did work managed to work and what went wrong with the things that didn't work. I am at least happy that they give a shit about this competition
