The entire mantra is "there is no bad publicity".

The idea is that if you position a property (a show, movie, stream, whatever) as "being attacked by mean online trolls" or "complete hot garbage" - people will tune in to see what all the fuss is about. Ideally, you'll keep some of the people checking it out and viola! You've got baby's first marketing strategy. It's how Howard Stern got popular, how Postal/Mortal Kombat/whatever other violent video game gets a massive following, how cult classic movies get a following, and so on.

The issue here is two fold.
1) If you're going to get people to "take a peek" - the content needs to be able to be decent enough to keep them coming back once they've done so. G4's content - outside of Frosk's ranting - is incredibly bad. It's not even "so bad it's good" bad - it's offensively generic.

Frosk's rant generated tons of clicks - tons of people checked it out, talked about it, watched it, etc - the reach was probably in the millions or maybe tens of millions? From an engagement standpoint (and a management standpoint) - it was a massive success which is probably why it was supported by execs. However, the brave souls that decided to watch other G4 content bounced off really hard. There are a lot of videos on the G4 channel that have under 5,000 views - which would be fine if they were just some dumb shit let's play channel and not a massive network with a huge studio in California with a gigantic staff roster. There content was simply not engaging.

So Frosk did her job and got a whole bunch of people in the door - but no one at G4 could keep anyone inside (Frosk also included).

2) The marketing is a "trick" that everyone already knows by now. When people hear "this isn't a property for you" or "being review bombed by trolls" or "for a modern audience" - no one cares anymore. Bros did it, Ghostbusters 2016 did it, the Star Wars movies did it, and so on forever. It's a beaten horse that no longer puts asses in seats and a trick that no longer works.

The people being excluded don't mind being excluded and happily didn't watch any G4 (or even if they gave it a chance, point 1 still remains) and the people they meant to include weren't moved to suddenly give a huge shit about something they don't care about. Even if they did - the content simply wasn't there and it's <CURRENT YEAR> - "Diversity and Inclusion" is a big target market for a lot of video game sites. Twitch constantly pushes DEI initatives (going so far to let you search content creators by LGBTQIA++ tags and ethnicity), Vice/Waypoint were created for that specific reason, Giantbomb is a lump of soy now, Youtube does the same thing - the G4 folks never thought about "how do we do what they do better and capture that audience".

G4's relaunch might be one of the most arrogant things ever recorded. They really showed up thinking they were going to just have a massive audience "just because" and never did.
