It's about injustice. It's about man's inhumanity to man. If it had the happy ending he thinks it should have, where Winston defeats the regime, then all of the author's points about how totalitarian systems inevitably force people to betray, not just each other, but themselves would fall by the wayside. I suppose he wants Winston to get back together with Julia as well. Idiot.

Y'know he still pulls off this shit after he went "Oh that rant was satire" or whatever. Now I can't help but think that his "Dark Knight Rises was RUINED because of the shooter" was legit too.

What.

My god. I really hope he never takes a college-level literature course, or the results would be absolutely CWC-like.

I certainly see your point but in my opinion that was kind of the point. To show the danger of totalitarianism.

He could have at least made an ending with SOME justice, SOME hope. ANYTHING would have been better than the literal middle finger that is this novel's "resolution".

And no, I'm not asking that Winston singlehandedly overthrow the government. What I am asking is that he accomplish what amounts to a significant "step" towards an eventual overthrow, proving that the government is not invincible. If one man can score even a tiny victory against Big Brother, then others can follow suit.

I know it's been said countless times before, but he has completely missed the point of this (and many other) novels. Why is he so obsessed with happy endings when he has technicolor-nightmare 3-penis rape monsters?

Off topic, but thanks to Moleman I picked up a new translation of Camus' The Stranger, and I'm freaking loving it.

Oh God, he's still going with it.

The book is a warning about totalitarianism and what it does to people. It's SUPPOSED to be bleak.

It's TOO bleak, and in too mean–spirited a way. It doesn't work as a tragedy either because it's ALL the fault of monstrous villains.

Oh no! Muh book is portraying a realistic look at life! But--muh books are supposed to let me escape from the real truth of things! Good's suh-POSED tuh win over evil! What about muh feel gud ending?

Books aren't always supposed to give you happy endings. A story like 1984's supposed to get you thinking about your own reality and how you'd react to the situation proposed in the story. A good book doesn't make you happy with the ending (in some cases), it's supposed gets you thinking.

Saying there should have been some kind of happy ending is the lazy man's way of dismissing the narrative. I think you're supposed to walk away from the story recognizing the potential issues with an ever-growing government and standing up against it: that in itself is the hope Moleman is looking for. If he needs a book to tell him that, then it's no different than a government dictating its people. Hope is something you have to make on your own efforts.

I'm not trying to force you to like anything. However, you would appear to be forcing me and others NOT to like certain things, which is obviously an even bigger offense.

No one should be excluded from ERB, or even fan battles, just because the moderators do not personally like them. After all, there are always going to be some ERBS even among the official ones that some aren't as interested in.

1984 is like, my favorite book, lol what was the kid expecting?

It is one of mine too. thats why he annoys me. Its like he doesn't understand 1984 can't have a happy ending. The last line of the book is suppose to :heart-empty: the reader. I bet he didn't under stand one thing Orwell was trying to convey.

Oh, this is hilarious: Moleman9000 criticising a Sonic recolour.

That is not an original character. That is Amy, poorly painted over.
That does not give you an excuse to so crudely rip off others' designs.
In other words, draw it yourself or GTFO.

Hey Alan, I don't know how often you hear it but I want to thank you for all the work you do bringing quality content. Your additions to the Moleman thread alone have given me hours of entertainment. Thanks, dude!
