There are still changes in the japanese version as well apparently, with the names of the nations being altered (Nation R becomes Nation M and Nation Z as Nation X now) to avoid any likeness with russians and the current conflict.

So the disclaimer above sadly ends up being a lie.

Advance Wars 1 (Re-Boot Camp remake) - Mission 11:
FuiroUVaUAEcurY.jpgFug3CU4XgAExNQr.jpg
Original JP script in the GBA version had Sam (aka Domino, her original name) calling herself a "cute girl", in the line where she's offended at being mistaken as a boy by the enemy general. But besides that, the english GBA version was pretty close.
Re-Boot Camp entirely removes all of that however, and since that remake is entirely an american project by NoA & WayForward (with no plans to release in Japan), there is no japanese version to compare.

In case you needed more proof of how shit Fire Emblem Fate's translation was, here is a perfect example.
More examples inbound:

I am amazed how the localizers went as far to change the guys' original disgusted/concerned expressions in the third pic, because these characters dare to find lesbianism weird.

Persona 5 is rated M according to google which is probably more of an issue for phone games than regular video games, so I'd imagine they're cutting stuff to just shoot for a lower, broader rating.
For some reason, Sidhe was left untouched in the (chinese) mobile game despite showing as much skin as the other female demons

1) Capcom thing, this gives me a bit of optimism about there is still some difference in Japanese branch comparing to US branch. Or at least how some portion of Japanese branch isn't really on this whole globohomo diversity thing.

2) Advance Wars Reboot, since no one has posted this in any related threads (Nintendo) here. They also add colours (brown-black skin) to units now. From trailer and gameplay. Sure, lets have fictional nations based on German, Russia and Japan well.... let everybody(race) commits war crime together.

3) Really surprising that Persona Sidhe doesn't get touch, that amount of cleavage would be guarantee to be covered up. Some comrade is slacking in their job.

I'd like to have a beer with whatever faggot did that.

Demon Slayer.
Is that in all version of the Demon Slayer game, Switch too?

SO DIVERSE
MUCH PROGRESSIVE
WOW

Another example of shit, obviously political, translation. This time, the devs actually went back and corrected the screwed up tranlation.
I'm actually more cringe at the original debate from that tweet. It's mildly amusing how these jackasses interchanging between "localization" and "translation". Surely many things have benefited from such creativity.

Featuring localization cunt and "Please help localizers".

I hope they are continued to be treated poorly and looked down on, because they are surely deserved for their own incompetency.

Technically, they're not incorrect. There are certain situations where there are many options for what to translate a term as. You don't want a translation to be too dry.

The problem is they're more concerned about censoring, not making an enjoyable experience.

Standard censorship would be one thing, but they're apparently often going beyond just that and making ideologically driven changes. That's reprehensible, especially because their ideology is too.

I'm not disagree with you, but so far for current generation of official Western localizer and translators, I have big doubt.
Beside censoring stuffs and putting nonsense ideology here, I mean even basic stuffs they can't even deliver it properly.

Let me get this out first, there are times I'm okay with not 100% translation to original meaning, as long as they can convey whole context for situation.
For examples:
1) Monogatari tongue twister scene, while Japanese tongue twister is about motorcycles making large noise like horse, when English tongue twister is about caged animals dreaming of handling caged animals.

2) Apex Legends, from English to Japanese. Many characters have their own slang or words to describe "enemy" in English. Like Horizon will say "Hooligan", "Baddie/bad guy" or "Eejit", Rampart says "Plonker", Valkyrie says "Bandit" or "Bogey", Mad Maggie says "Egg". All of these in Japanese are just "Teki", basically enemy.
You lost character flavour, but you get consistency.

3) Persona 3 portable, class lesson. In English, player would have a Japanese language class/test going on, player has to pick the word "pan" for bread.

Now, the basic stuffs localizer/translator being "creative", especially on the tone.
1) Urusei Yatsura, episode 16
Urusei Yatsura 2022.png
The father, he mentions "juunen hayai". In short, "10 years early", a common saying in martial art theme (more so in China wuxia than Japan). Usually about one character is too inexperience, impatience and lacking skill to defeat the other one. That character should train and improve themself more.
Translating into "too young" is just difference in age, does not convey that trope writing.

2) Gundam Witch from Mercury. Very spoiler.
Episode 11
G Witch ep 11b.png G Witch ep 11a.png

The first image? All Sophie (on second picture) said were "Are? Are? Are?" in Japanese, Usually translate into "What?" or "Huh?", depends on situation character being surprised or confused.
The context in this scene, Sophie was so happy that she got to find her admired idol/hero on random chance. At the same time, Sophie is an orphan trained for piloting a mobile suit for a "rebel" group.
Do you really think somehow this girl Sophie manages to say 3-4 "What?" lines in such different and longer way, in this moment of murdering people? She's also very unhinged.

Episode 12.
G Witch ep 12b.png G Witch ep 12c.png
G Witch ep 12a.png G Witch ep 12.png

The one I'm annoyed is on the 4th picture. In Japanese, Miorine says "hito koroshi", would be "A person got killed" or to Suletta is "You kill a person".
The line sounds kinda awkward, but saying "Murder" comes off as accusation and victim is "did nothing wrong". Meanwhile, the whole context, Miorine (white hair girl) would have gotten killed if Suletta hadn't come and smashed the guy into ketchup.

Edit: not to be so harsh on G Witch, doing the puns in good way.

Hoboy. Love the fact that it's been thousands of years and there's still autistic slapfights about translations/localizations going on. Except in Byzantium they fought civil wars over this shit.

Having worked a stint in the localization industry, the major problem isn't the fact that these fucks are trying to censor things, it's that they're fucking culturally and linguistically illiterate. They have an incredibly narrow worldview, and exist within their own comfortable hugbox. (But I suppose if they were culturally well-rounded, they wouldn't be wokeshits, since the two tend to be pretty incompatible.) A lot of the editors have no knowledge of the source language, source culture, or, even target culture. Outsourcing has also wrecked the 3rd party translation industry, because you are likely to get a bunch of ostensibly non-esl niggers doing the initial pass and some solo leftcoaster doing the editing. Also for anime/game related localization, shit's full of uplifted weebs of the worst sort you can imagine from your college anime club.

Older localization efforts would have similar issues with inserting pop culture references (mention Working Designs and watch Japanese language purists foam at the mouth. In fact, I expect at least one person to rant/hatequote this post now that I've opened up that pandora's box. Hi.) but at minimum they had a broader view of their target market culture, than the coom-brained left-coaster dweebs.

(All of this also goes for the non-professional translation community as well, except it's possibly even worse there because holy ESL infestation batman.)

They arent doing translation or localization, what they're doing is called culturalization, the term used to exist for censoring games for china and shit like that but now they're doing it to suit their own little cult

I dunno, it's pretty the accusation is that she killed someone and all those giant robo fights were not just games being played by rich kids (and she might have neutralised him rather than turn him into tomato paste). Calling her a Killer is awkward in English and Murderer is more dramatic and rolls better (nevermind that being shocked, she didn't think of the legal connotations).

Capcom is pulling a ducing disney here, Framing their old content or original versions of shit they bought out with a fucking racism disclaimer, and changing/censoring shit despite claiming they didn't. What the actual fuck world are we living in where shit from the last 2 decades is suddenly being framed as "potentially culturally insensitive race depictions? Or do they now count the big lipped fat japanese kid that uses gutsman as a black caricature now because he has cartoon fat guy lips? I genuinely am gaining a bitof a distain for disney's two faced shitter tactics gradually becoming the standard now.

I watched a guy play through some of the collection earlier but didn't see this disclaimer or this change, probably because he skipped the bullcrap disclaimer by having the game already open when he started the stream for one, and the fact the referring to a nation variable in a terrorist plot outline as "nation R" is such a fucking minor and petty change that you wouldn't even fucking notice it. Nobody immediately thinks "Russia!!!" when the letter R is uttered. Then again the US release of the X legacy collection censors the opening cutscenes because they thought the guy waving was too close to Hitler and the lens flares would cause epileptic seizures, you know DESPITE THERE ALREADY BEING A WARNING NOT TO PLAY THE GAME IF YOU HAVE EPI-ER EXCUSE ME "PHOTOSENSITIVITY" AT THE STARTUP, but the fact this change is universal rather than reigon exclusive makes it a lot more worse, especially with the fucking racism warning disclaimer shit.

I Kind of legit laughed at that moment..because I didn't see it coming.

I given when the two finally talked about it Mio apologized for being harsh as fuck I think this is acceptable. Also I can accept Mio being quite..shocked at the turn of events because the situation did escalate from "Don't Die Dad" to "Oh I'm gonna die." to "OH FUCK HE CAN BE DRUNK LIKE A MILKSHAKE" in about 10 seconds.

This is why you don't give Capcom money, and you stop giving into nostalgia.

What did you expect? NiS is a shitty company that does this all of the time.

Box art for Disgaea 7, yes NIS put light beams over the tamest example of cleavage in existence because cartoon boobies bad. Maybe they'll reverse the trend of Etna wearing progressively less clothes every game and put her in a burka or something, you know for equality.

View attachment 5115832
I remember like just a year or 2 ago there was a similar shitshow around the box art image for disgaea 6 but it was visibly just the flash effect on the fake video game box render and the actual game box art was unaltered. They got harassed over it and yeah I know they pull bullshit a lot of the time in recent years, but that case was clearly a fucking fluke. THIS THOUGH? this is fucking intentional censorship 100%, the simulated lighting on the box render doesn't line up with the white spots at all this time. I guess some chuckle fuck over at their office thought it'd be clever to do the fucking thing people were claiming they did with the last game and gave them hell over as a result.

This is why you don't give Capcom money, and you stop giving into nostalgia.
What's funny is the legacy collection for battle network doesn't come with all of the games. There's a platformer game that plays like if you mixed normal Megaman gameplay with the battle chip card stuff that takes place between (and came out between if I remember this right?) the first and second battle network gameboy games, Kinda like an inverse of how chain of memories was handheld and took place between the first 2 kingdom hearts games. Much like CoM, Network Transmission has some weird fucking gimmickry and difficulty scaling, but that'sno excuse to avoidincluding a game because x6 (hard) and x7 (bad) are in the x collection. It can't be a console issue, either, because If the MMX collection can fit X7 and X8 from the ps2 in, then they could have easily fit network transmission in the battle network one. However, instead of doing that it seems they put more priority on damage control attempts for absolute non-issues instead of actually making sure to include all the games. The guy i was watching play through the games had to finagle some settings around and boot up an emulator just so he could say he played through all the battle network games in order on livestream. Pretty fucking funny to watch play out honestly but still Jesus fucking christ how in the fuck do you make such an oversight?
