Game Censorship & Localization General Thread

CERO claiming games are the same as gambling machines was one of the first biggest blows to the Japanese market iirc.

Doesn't help anytime they have a brutal murder their art and entertainment seems to get the blame leading to more censorship, nevermind maybe it's some of their incredibly bullshit cultural aspects that maybe lead to crazy shit.

God forbid you have a true mental episode over there and need help only for a doctor to tell you to "just be happy."

Fairy Tail 2 will most likely be censored as the first game. The first game was released uncensored but then KT added a Day 1 patch that added black voids under the skirts. The 2nd game is going to be released in December. And the devs have claimed it will be uncensored. So I already know they will do the same shit they did before. Release the game uncensored then add a Day 1 censorship patch. There are already pictures confirming this through Tokoyo Game Show 2024.

Hey I'm just glad we've at least reached a point where they feel sufficiently ashamed and try to obfuscate what's actually happening instead of openly celebrating.

I keep seeing people saying variations of "The only reason why you’re hating on localizers is cause you’re trying to win the culture war" but "localizers" inserting their own shit tier “humor” instead of just translating the words and thinking they are part of the creative process or that they're making the works palatable for American audiences is nothing new, it's been around before these current culture wars, like with outfits like 4Kids. The current generations of "localizers" are just a lot more self-righteous and uppity about it.

You know what kills me about these faggots most? The stupid modern day obnoxious pride and stubborness.

When I first became a huge anime fan online back on the old internet, people pretty universarly were able to agree what were bad and what were good dubs and subs. Some dubs and subs were cringe but when someome liked it, they never pretended it was more accurate. Even to this day I see oldschool DBZ fans prefer the bad Ocean Dub where no one died and everyone got sent to another dimension. They never act like it's accurate, to them it is their most nostalgic and ideal version of DBZ.

Modern dub fans are so used to their programming of being blind sheep who never question anything when it comes to their woke politics, and because of that, the same mentality comes over with their hobbies too.

They don't just like the dub, they have to argue and cultishly crusade about how the dub is 100% accurate and that you are a culture war incel for disagreeing. They are never allowed to be wrong about anything, they are always in the right and they are morally better people than the fans who just want their freaking entertainment localized accurately. Not bootlicking the localization and censorship companies makes you evil for some reason.

Maybe localizers should stop waging a culture war, then? I always feel like I can't hate these people any more than I already do, but then I do.

At least 4kids had the excuse that they were usually trying to sell things to a much younger and more parochial audience than the Japanese original. I blame the absolute state of broadcast television regulations in the 90s more than 4kids - 4kids was just there to conveniently take advantage of the situation.

These modern faggots have no excuse. No one consumes media via broadcast television under the FCC's purview nowadays. No one's buying games from Walmart. You can pretty much do anything you want (at least in the US). It's literally just faggy companies trying to play nanny in place of the government.

People bashed Working Designs for this type of thing. Now it's cool? Sometimes I feel like I reality shifted into Bizarro World. This kind of lingo gets dated fast. You want to steer clear of too much trendy slang.

Is it weird I'm nostalgic for the early 2000s and America doing their own take on Japanese media? Wendigomon dancing to Smash Mouth is peak 2000. It's Fox, not 4kids but it's still the same thing.

I've been dealing with bad translations since the 90s. If anything there is always one persistent individual who'll try to fix a bad translation of a game he likes.

Nintendo of America localization apparently needed more staff than the modelers, the programmers, the music. I am not joking. The only section I think was larger was NoA's QA staff.
