Gamefaqs - An old gaming website that still exists somehow

Man, I haven't thought about that website in years... probably haven't visited it since 2006. I actually used to write FAQs for "bounties" on games I really didn't even care about in the early 2000s for free spending money in the form of amazon gift cards, which was a big deal to a perpetually broke-ass college student. Roommate worked at Blockbuster and would just get me whatever I wanted, so I didn't even spend money on the games. It was the perfect racket.

I was so excited to get into LUE in high school. It was as everyone said, just a haven for shit posting and general nonsense.

I went back to GameFAQs in recent years for nostalgia's sake. About 95% of the posts on all the video game subforums are "archived", even those on the front page. You might see one or two active posts at any given time, and they're filled with lame know-it-alls who don't welcome new people into their cliques, and therefore don't mind 1 post every 3-5 days.

LUE is basically /r9k/, where they try to have serious discussions about shit, but everyone is too autistic to respond meaningfully, so everyone is just oddly ironic about everything. It's like a forum full of ghosts that don't know they're dead.

Believe he posted as Juigi or something. Wasn't a troll, just a turbo-sperg. Would yell at people who post FAQs for the same game as him (Usually Fire Emblem) and threaten to call the mods to get them taken down.

His attitude bothered me back when I was a teenager but now...yeah, the Dramatica article says it all.

Moderation cannot self mod the place, they have to go through people reporting the offender before they can take any form of action. This means trolls basically get away with everything while some user cries about the unfair moderation

And the irony of the quarantine is that years after LUE went and shat on the livejournal of the dead girl. We now have people on twitter, facebook and other forms on social media pissing on the graves of random people they normally don't care about and not even get a single suspension.

Still, I consider Gamefaqs as the alt right version of resetera/neogaf for these types of posts. Try that shit anywhere else and you would get banned.

GameFAQs tends to go both ways I find. You'll find plenty of threads about SJWs ruining games, along side topics like

I used to post there a lot. I also posted on spinoffs, which were basically bunker boards set up by people who were banned from GameFAQs for being shitheads and taking advantage of CJayC's shitty code to hijack exceptional individuals' accounts.

The best "spinoff," that got its own identity, was of course LUELinks, then End of the Internet. I used to post there a lot but got banned for being an alt right Nazi but, y'know, Communism is a-okay, comrade, even though actual Communists have killed an order of magnitude of people more than the National Socialists ever did. (NOT a coincidence that it's a troon occupation government there) What happened with ETI is that it was once a link aggregator with people uploading shit to MEGAUPLOAD and people voting on the links, but then MEGAUPLOAD got illegally ended by the FBI and anyone who wasn't a NEET, a tranny, or an idiot fucked off. I've met SOs off of these dumbass boards.

So, LUELinks never brought back the links? Even with Mega.nz becoming a thing?

Even back when the links were there, the boards were toxic as could be. They're much worse than GameFAQs itself, with how everyone seemed to just troll one another, making the whole forum covered with such an impenetrable sheet of autistic irony that nobody seemed genuine, and just out to upset one another.

Anyone have a link to the video where that one guy from the NFL Board was on To Catch a Predator? I never lurked or posted there but people would bring it up every now and then elsewhere on the site. I remember the guy was screaming like a bitch when the cops tackled him.

I thought little of GameFAQs, until I remembered a Guilty Gear thread where goers yelled about the canonicity of Kuro Ky, who is essentially an "evil Ky Kiske" who was popular in yaoi ai circles back in the day with Ky vanilla and Sol slash fics and something about Christianity and with Kuro Ky being a butt pirate how that doesn't work, and that they were also the origin of "DIAMONDS ARE THE HARDEST METAL KNOWN TO MAN". Does anyone remember that meme anymore?

Outside of that, at least the people who wrote FAQs weren't bored and rabid.
 
Used to frequent GameFaqs way back when, but lost my first account for swearing. My second account is from 2002 and I remember I got a warning because their anti-swearing moderation was so insane; saying something like "rhymes with witch" was against their rules. Not all boards were insanely moderated though; as once a game wore out its appeal, most traffic would leave and the mods wouldn't look as closely as they used to. Parasite Eve 2 is where I started shit-posting, because once that game lost its luster of being new; it became a lot of dick wagging and shit-talking. I remember one user there BullFrogger, and we somehow got on the topic of women and he said some shit like "I took her virginity. I have the bloody sheet to prove it." The other board was Zone of the Enders 2; where every month there would be a thread about Ken's breasts, and it'd reach the post limit of 500 and auto-close. Then next month, someone would make a new one. I don't know how far they got, but I remember there being at least 12 of them. But all that shit got clamped down hard when they merged with GameSpot, then moderation and thread closures got really stupid.
