Gamefaqs - An old gaming website that still exists somehow

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
There's a selfie thread on Current Events right now. GameFAQs doesn't archive the off-topic boards, so it'll be gone in a few days. It's not interesting or worthy of screenshotting, it's just got your usual mix of shitposting and actual selfies. Some of the users on there... actually aren't bad looking. It's not like Reddit where most of the fucking userbase is obese women, balding soyboys, or troons. Amazin'. Even the one tranny in there looks way better than any of the freaks I've seen on Something Awful.

But what brought me back here to KF was to post about a former mod who posted his selfie. He's a GameFAQs legend, now right about to celebrate his 20th year of membership on the 28th, and one of the most prolific FAQ writers from the early days. In fact, he never even left the site this whole time. According to the karma calculator, as of today, CyricZ has missed all of... 78 days, over the past 20 years. That's it. Just 78 days, out of 7,302. Literally, truly literally, over 98% of his days in the past 20 years of his entire life have seen him log into GameFAQs at some point.

I should say, at least from what I've seen, he's never been hostile or standoffish. I don't think I've ever personally spoken with him, but I have no reason to show him any disrespect. He just seems like a guy who lives on GameFAQs, and isn't going away any time soon. But twenty years of commitment, including being a mod in the earlier years? That's a hell of a lot of time spent on a website that doesn't even pay your bills. But what could this person even look like? Is he mentally sound? Is he autis-

...oh.

I uh, never knew.

That makes sense.

CyricZ gets super shitty to people on CE that dont like new Star Wars or support Trump. Regularly calls people incel too which is funny because he used to complain about being a later in life virgin until he supposedly lost it a year or two ago.

I used to use that site in the early 2000s before it merged / got bought out by whoever it was.

I still visit from time to time, usually when a new Fallout game comes out or Call of Duty

I've found the Fallout boards to be friendly and usable, but the Call of Duty boards are split between whiners, and people shit posting.

I'd like to take a moment to bitch about how fuckjng exceptional the people over on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake board are. The demo for the game recently got datamined and that released a metric ton of information about the game including the estimated endpoint of the game.

Since the leak happened you've got your usual people discussing it and getting pissy/excited about how long they think the game will be. That said, there are absolute fucking mongoloids bitching about how the game will only cover the Midgar section of the game and not the whole game like they thought. Kind of like how SE said that that's what was going to happen. Its absolutely fucking stunning that people are upset the game will end exactly where they said it would end instead of it being a surprise full game.

I just want to kill myself in frustration at these people. Christ.

It's only going to get worse. Since the game got delayed, SE released a demo for it tonight, ends right at the end of the bombing mission that starts the game. Took me about 50 minutes to get through... and God help us when the actual game gets released.

I've started just straight up ignoring the board. Every day it gets worse with more inane topics or doomsayers.

So, typical of the Call of Duty community overall, then.

I started posting on and off at Gamefaqs around the PS2 time iirc, the only discussions that I can immediately recall were "the realism wars" between Gran Turismo and Forza, nevermind that PC sims have always been more realistic.

Some user reviews are worth reading for older titles (many were written pre-nostalgia), the actual FAQs have been hit or miss as you'd expect.

I want to say "Maybe it's kids who just use the place for guides" but lol kids don't read they watch Youtube.

Current Events are losing their shit over Wu Flu. There's a whole topic about how this is the biggest event in their lives, and when people pointed out that most of them should have been alive to remember 9/11 they claimed 9/11 was bad for the US but didn't do anything to negatively impact the world as a whole.

...as if the Global War on Terror wasn't born from 9/11 and hasn't had ramifications on the West and Middle East for two decades now.

Gamefaqs proves once again that the majority of them live in their moms and dads house.

Something I've noticed about GameFAQs' community is how they really don't have younger posters coming in, and it's mostly very late Gen X & early Millenials. It's kind of surprising how the social boards are full of really, really old accounts well past the 10 year line. I really wouldn't be surprised if the majority of people who voted "my spouse and/or kids" are just too embarrassed to vote otherwise.

Current Events fighting over politics again

That was written by this person, lmao:

I still use GameFAQs for guides. Sure, there's YouTube videos for these but these text-based walkthroughs are very easy to access offline later and besides you're not guaranteed to have a YouTube video for any game available especially older ones. I also liked GameFAQs having a game database especially for franchises.

I didn't really browse the boards though because they are expectedly cancer, but didn't know it to be that bad.

The Last of Us 2 leaks are causing a stir on Gamefaqs. One of the typical ResetEra rejects couldn't wrap his mind around how some people on Gamefaqs put gameplay over visuals when it comes to determine great games.

After this it deolved into him posting typical ResetEra "Gamers Rise Up Memes" to mock everyone trying to get him to understand that they don't give two shits about how pretty TLOU2 will look if the story and gameplay end up being shit.
