im sure as hell not gonna laugh at people losing their income
Fuck that, they celebrated every time they canceled someone (causing lost income) and told us all how terrible we are and how we barely deserve to breathe much less live for not bending the knee. I hope they all wind up homeless and sucking dick to pay for a room at the Motel 6.

So, first up... can someone tell me what this "Giant Bomb" thing is? What is this all about?

Absolutely, sir, one seco-

What is that? Who? What is that?

That's one of the team members, the ring leader, actually. "Jeff Grubb"

Jesus, OK... and so what does he do? What do they do? What's going on over there?

It's mostly just a lot of talking. Video game news headlines, speculation, gossip, hot-takes, you know the style..

Uh-huh. That's it?

That's it.

And... user engagement? Views? How are they doing?

If you take a look at page 3 of the repor-

Gotcha, oka- wow, is this...? These numbers...? It's not impressive, is it?

No, sir.

...And how much are we paying these scruffy goofballs?

Just over the page there sir, page four-

...

Kill it.

whats is wrong with you
Like most of the people that games urinalists hate I'm a blue collar guy living in the middle of Bumfuck, Nowhere where pretty much everything that doesn't require a degree caps out around 19 bucks, while rent continues to swell at the same time. I'm not going to shed a tear for these bums who did nothing for nobody being told they have to muck in with the rest of us and get a real job. They can wave bye bye to their trendy way of living and see what real work is like for a change.

I have good news for you then. These games journos that were living in LA, NYC, Seattle, SF, Portland, Chicago, etc? They weren't living the good life. They were in tiny 600 sqft shithole apartments, only had groceries available that they could get at a bodega(think 7-eleven trying to be a grocery store) and dealing with all of the big city problems in the moderately crappy neighborhoods because they could never afford the good neighborhoods. Meanwhile the cost of living skyrocketed around them with a $13 meal at McDonalds or an $8 drink at starbucks, and of course they had to rely on shitty mass transit with the rest of the plebs because it isn't like they were affording a car or anywhere to keep the thing.

Anything fun?
I watched the first 30 minutes and this part was satisfying.

"They're just going to gut this place and lay off all of these people unceremoniously from the top to the bottom"

"It is really hard to both stomach and fathom the loss that has occurred here and I think what this represents about the future of games media as an institution"

"These institutions means that you have an infrastructure in place to house and pay a lot of people that is what is going away and that feels like is never coming back"

lol with all the plastic crap they seem to have and the cities they live in you could have fooled me, but it makes me happy nonetheless. Suffah, journos.
I hope fucking Zoe Quinn was worth it.
Can there be an "I got blown by Zoe and all I got was the collapse of my industry" tee shirt drive?

Fucking GOOD, faggot. Learn to mine coal.
Patrick Klekuck--err, Klepek, is breathing copium with jealously on his Bluesky that YouTubers are a bunch of "vultures that lies". But it's okay to him when he lies on his clickbait articles, and not YouTubers sperging a way better job than him and the rest of the clickbait gaming journalists.

Buddy, you're small time, not them. Give it a year or two, nobody will even remember who you are.

Curiously, bad, greedy corporations always start being bad and greedy the exact moment they fire the wrong employees and not a minute before, with all the moustache-twirling shady and unethical shit they do flying under the radar of even the most politically-motivated "culture" journalists up to that particular point. It's a shame that the very sixth sense that allows them to find colonialist and heterosexist undertones in games they can't even play doesn't seem to work with the colleagues and corporations they rub shoulders with. I'm having deja vu from the recent Veilguard fiasco when there wasn't a single journalist who wasn't willing to take a bullet for EA or Bioware, or any article saying that, actually, Veilguard wasn't selling like hotcakes, until the layoffs hit. Suddenly, it was all the fault of the same corporations they were defending a week before.
I hope they go ahead with this unemployment line Discord group, even better if they let Alyssa have any position of power in their little treehouse. The drama and infighting will never stop flowing.

I can't wait to listen to these commie faggots turn heel on their previous employers for being le heccin ebil capitalists.
"These institutions means that you have an infrastructure in place to house and pay a lot of people that is what is going away and that feels like is never coming back"
There was some "support independent, worker-owned publications" going around GameJourno Blue sky today but even some other Game Journos pointed out those can't scale to provide the jobs eliminated.

Maybe you need capitalism to do that sort of thing? Klepeck was so proud of the "Fuck Capitalism" signoff to Waypoint Radio.

If the Corpos and CEOs were so bad they're leaving money on the table like GameJournos say they are somebody would be able to get investors together to buy Polygon and run it as is for easy profit. Strange how that never happens.
I watched the first 30 minutes and this part was satisfying.
"For this to come on May Day"
Who the fuck cares about May Day other than Commies.

ol with all the plastic crap they seem to have and the cities they live in you could have fooled me, but it makes me happy nonetheless. Suffah, journos.
Nah. The plastic trash took the place of having hobbies or a personality worth a shit.
"For this to come on May Day"
Who the fuck cares about May Day other than Commies.
Well that would be why they care about May Day.

Happy to see these fags lose their jobs. They've all ball washed and gargled the cum of triple a game company's fucking over consumers and have never raised any issue with the anti-consumer practices. I would say learn to code but all of the low IQ shit coders have been replaced by ai so I guess go work at Walgreens or Aldi ya fucking skrubs.

It's funny to think these are already the people who didn't get a callback from WaPo or some other rag, but it's not that they were ball-washing the AAA publishers that make them worthy to be reviled, the long-established quid pro quo of giving AAA games a good word to not piss off the cultivated relationship (read: free games and other perks) that every industry has...it's the fact that they were absolutely horrible people.

As @DickMain mentioned, these are the same fuckwads who had nothing but hatred toward their audience, would use their influence to ruin the lives of anyone who crossed them, all while enjoying a cushy, comfortable job that people that actually play video games would've loved to have but just didn't have the right connections to get into it.

I watched the first 30 minutes and this part was satisfying.

They mention their union (and ongoing negotiations), turned out that did jack shit for them. Given how much these types tend to hype up unions (and their union was a real one, tied to Writers Guild of America East), I guess they learned the hard way that when the chips are down, they'll never stick their neck out for you.

Polygon isn't even a name that people remember fondly. They were founded in 2012, with plans to (according to Wikipedia) a "'serious commitment to online journalism' in an age of content farms and disappearing print publications" and wanted to "be able to run longform 'magazine-style journalism' that could be of historic interest" and yet within a few years became the same ol' shit as everything else. I don't even think they even had a golden age that people look at fondly. Giant Bomb isn't that much older either, but they at least did have a time when people remembered them fondly.
