"egirl" isn't a slur it's just a pathetic thing people choose to be. They're not "reclaiming" anything they're just choosing to be the lowest form of quasicelebrity that exists.

Are invalidating the identity of these brave young feminist pioneers you misogynistic pig? You're probably a gamer aren't you?

For fairness' sake of course I checked whether Diaz is just your basic camera slut, and the first clip I find is of her in hotpants with the actual game being the size of a postage stamp. Okay maybe it was a bad example, find her YT channel, click a random vid, and I am genuinely struggling to find the gameplay in her edited vids.

Well the other two examples are over fast because Zoie is fucking wearing a fetish outfit right there in the picture, and it wouldn't matter if ZombiUnicorn wasn't a slut who's just using the excuse of "art" to prance around nude while painting garbage work on her tits, she'd still be made fun of for being humorless and berating younger women who make a living dancing at gaming conventions in skimpy clothing.

If anything, this article just propped up some of the worst people that legitimize hating female streamers without realizing it.

“Being an egirl is creating this perfect illusion of exactly what the internet today claims it wants: an anime loving, video game playing, sexy goth girlfriend.” She adds, “As a girl, I think it’s a fun way to express yourself.”
Gaming isn’t really necessary; and although liking anime adds some egirl cred, the new cadre of egirls is more identifiable by their edgy-kawaii look rather than their hobbies.
Fucking amazing, just a straight-up quote paraphrasing "I am just pandering to a fetish. Doesn't matter what you do as long as you look the part" - GURL POWAH!

"Some female humans have found yet another way among the myriads of existing ways to garner obscene amounts of attention for their inherent narcissism and be shielded from criticism. Here's why that's still a good thing"

The problem with her quote is that guys hate exactly that, attention whores who fake liking anime and vidya. It's why the word ethot came to be.
They aren't even sexy goths to a man with standards, most of them are just vapid uggos who browse tumblr and think themselves aesthetic whilst taking selfies and doing the same poses and faces. They're more basic than normie girls

Gaming culture financially supports these brave women, but somehow hates them at the same time. Thanks for the chuckle, Kotaku.

No shit. I don't get how nobody writing this ever noticed that in the first place. So much for all the "we can do it"-bullshit and being more than just a pair of tits for the last decade.

"Hey egirl actually now means these girls who ACT like they're weeaboos and gamers trying to get attention by looking cute" - so the definition hasn't changed, then?

This article looks more like an advertisement for an assortment of Twitch sluts dressed up as an outrage piece

Nobody ever calls thots "sluts" anymore. I miss that word.

What site is this froh, of course it is.

Because when your Twitch stream is the 'game' pixel-sized and paused in the corner while your cleavage collects hundreds of dollars and subscribers, we are supposed to pretend it is legit. Thinking otherwise is harassing a poor girl trying to play a video game in brodude space.

These women know exactly what they're doing and have known for a decade. They make more money fleecing donations from nerds than they would shaking their ballistics on Chaturbate. Leave it to Kotaku to insist this is nobody else's fault but basement incels, and provide a crying shoulder if someone doesn't feel like pretending.
