While I can appreciate a bit, Japan isn't even in the top thirty per 100,000 and their rate has been going down over the years.Tell that to it's suicide numbers.

So far, Japan has been on record not wanting to invite foreigners who may have symptoms of COVID-19, while not allowing clapping or cheering that can distract the athletes from performing to their upmost ability. Also, they don’t want any North American politics to disrespect the other nations that are on display, which one might have to wonder what China will do when they host their own Olympics in the future.I am under the impression that Japan's moves re: the Olympics are intended solely to make the nation appear more palatable to an international audience, since it will after all be under international scrutiny of some sort as the Olympics are running, with hordes of filthy gaijin roaming the streets. It's the same logic behind raising the age of consent at a federal level, and ordering the removal of pornographic material from its usual place in convenience stores within a certain distance of the games venue. It is highly unlikely that Japanese companies are doing anything other than what they perceive as necessary; the same goes for the Japanese government.
that's the same for every country, in the end it comes down to preference and what you value more, like social cohesion due to homogeneous population. anyone would call it "better" when you live in a shithole that had a frontrow seat to the summer of love last year.I used to live in Japan and befoe covid routinely went back to Japan. Only Tokyo has any real noticable differences and even then, it's not as apocalyptic as people keep making it out to be. Anime is not represenative of Japan at all (I dont even know how to find it on TV most of the time when I'm there if I do want to watch it. I find American cartoons much easier like Spongebob or Simpsons).
Besides, annoying western sperges have been shitting up Japan long before SJW was even a term. Ask any boomer about the old vending machines that used to sell alcohol all the time rather than during specfiic times of day.
And honesly, there are some things Japan really needs to work on anyways. It's easy to say "based japan" when you're just a tourist or consoooomer.
you mean the winter olympics in 2022? now one really cares about those, would've been much more hilarious when the usa sends it's troon athletes shitting up a "fair" competition and either china getting pissed (china numba won!) or libtards can't say anything when china shuts that bs down and they have to take it to not offend their corporate overlods. when japan's gonna do it it will only be used against them.So far, Japan has been on record not wanting to invite foreigners who may have symptoms of COVID-19, while not allowing clapping or cheering that can distract the athletes from performing to their upmost ability. Yeah this is pretty true. You only get to experience surface level shit unless you stay there for extended periods of time like a year or more. You'll feel different about it once it becomes routine. And honesly, there are some things Japan really needs to work on anyways. I remember reading ages ago (I guess around the time they won the olympic bid) that they wanted to get rid of their "weird Japan" image in time for the olympics, and began scrubbing most of the stereotypical things from public view. If things like "panties vending machines" did exist, I doubt they do any more.I am under the impression that Japan's moves re: the Olympics are intended solely to make the nation appear more palatable to an international audience, since it will after all be under international scrutiny of some sort as the Olympics are running, with hordes of filthy gaijin roaming the streets. They've been infected for a long time. Specifically Nintendo Treehouse, and to a lesser degree Nintendo of America. Fire Emblem Fates being the most infamous example. So Nintendo is kill in 2-3 years?
About time they got infected by this shit.
I'm so tempted to post a huge off topic list of questions. It'll suffice to say, I've always wanted to go to Japan, but never had the money (then covid happened). Weebs always talk about learning moon runes and travelling to glorious nippon, but they never do. I mentioned weird Japan earlier, but I do wonder how Japan in reality compares to westerners perceptions. I will ask what you recommend seeing as a tourist? The weeb ideal of hanging around akihabara the whole time sound like a bit of a waste.I used to live in Japan and befoe covid routinely went back to Japan. Already happened, they blocked Super Seducer on their platform months ago. We'll see if they start censoring third party games.
For the olympics they were trying to clean out loli magazines from places foreigners would visit iirc.I remember reading ages ago (I guess around the time they won the olympic bid) that they wanted to get rid of their "weird Japan" image in time for the olympics, and began scrubbing most of the stereotypical things from public view. Depends on what you mean. For me the buck stops at death camps or slave labor. Otherwise I prefer Japan be as weird as possible to my nation. I can't even begin to explain my distress at going to Oktoberfest in Munich and it was less varied than if I just went to my state fair. Fuck, I think my state fair had a wider selection of beer available to everyone, no dumb lines where if you step out you're never allowed back in or anything like that -- you were never gonna be able to visit all of them or even get a taste of every option in Munich. The entire thing was practically the American standard of sanitization and every block repeated itself in attractions; same rides to same "games" in the same layout. Outside of the language everything was... pretty much the same as back home. I guess there were less black people, though, albeit many more browns. And honesly, there are some things Japan really needs to work on anyways. You don't go to Oktoberfest in a major metropolitan area and expect it to be that different. They want those tourist bucks so it's going to be pretty baseline and while German beer has purity laws, you kind of have to go out of the main city areas for some of the nitche stuff. Smaller breweries don't want to spend the money to trek all their stuff there. They mostly stay around rural or suburban areas. Like if you're going to do Oktoberfest in a city, it's better to just bar hop. European festivals like that are more geared towards Chinese tourists at this point.Depends on what you mean. That is why I hate globohomo -- specifically the homo part where everything is the same. I shouldn't travel across the ocean and think to myself, "Fuck, I could have had this experience going a few hours up north." Bad enough they're trying to inflict that shit on Japan's entertainment which is much easier to access here, since that kind of weirdness is fun to watch -- plus their horrors are much more terrifying to me.
Ranting aside... what do you think Japan has to work on? It's definitely not a utopia and is definitely more racist than America, but honestly given how much America is destroying itself trying to appease multiple "oppressed" cultures... I'm not so sure Japan is in the wrong here with their flippant attitude.
That's what I'm saying, though, all the metros are getting to be the same and even then it's actually spreading outward. At some point this shit is all there is gonna be and that's going to be boring as fuck. Especially when the entertainment goes first. No more Bollywood is a fucking tragedy no one should have to face. You don't go to Oktoberfest in a major metropolitan area and expect it to be that different. It's similar to other tourist places in asia as well. You have stuff like Cameron Apples which are nothing but Guavas soaked in vats of artificial fruit flavoring and color and passed off as a local delicacy or other species of fruits passed off as "Cameron Apples". You'll find shit like that in all major areas where tourists flow through, but they won't be in places that are off the beaten path. Then there's entire things like the Banana Pancake Trail which are notorious tourist traps.
That's just kind of like how Metropolitan areas have always operated throughout history. You can read roman accounts of how every major city was just the same to a lot of people. Standardization is just part of urbanization. That's what I'm saying, though, all the metros are getting to be the same and even then it's actually spreading outward. EDIT: For context, my uncle used to tell me how crazy Japan's metro was and that's not the case anymore. They've been trying to erase all the crazy for awhile and it's gotten worse as time went on. I think they've even tried sanitizing Akihabara, haven't they? Not even niche spots are really safe anymore. It's just so boring. Tiresome, really. I think it's possible the only countries I've been to that embraced their culture openly even in the metro were Central American.
I remember some mayor or something calling it a stain and making efforts to clean it up, but maybe they failed or something leaving the internet to finish the job. Still, my uncle's stories were fun to listen to and definitely nothing like what our metros were like. I mean, I suppose they are like ours now, though. Urbanization is the death of culture, no matter how much hipsters try to say otherwise. That's just kind of like how Metropolitan areas have always operated throughout history. Akihabara was mostly gutted when online shopping became the norm, most of the stores started operating through Rakuten and then just closed down their physical locations once larger retailers like Amazon lowered the bar for entry when it came to individual storefronts.
The whole thing about Japan is that they had to rebuild a ton of stuff after the war so by the 70's and 80's the cities were still up and coming in many of their areas and were being expanded and built upon. You had this weird ramshackle of old and new stuff and things were placed in less than optimal locations. Decades of urban planning eventually removed stuff like that out of necessity. I mean areas of Japan were known to have fully built structures and developments that just were abandoned for decades.I remember some mayor or something calling it a stain and making efforts to clean it up, but maybe they failed or something leaving the internet to finish the job. Should have done more to incorporate it together, to be honest, but his latest stories came from when he was there in the 90's. His opinion never really changed about how weird it was even then. The whole thing about Japan is that they had to rebuild a ton of stuff after the war so by the 70's and 80's the cities were still up and coming in many of their areas and were being expanded and built upon.
