ARMA attempts to simulate several hundred square kilometers of terrain, including air and sea, with whatever assets, physics, lighting, textures, AI, sound, and draw distance you would like to enable. it also attempts to accurately simulates ballistics of each projectile, and in a war simulation, that's a lot of projectiles that act independently. it is highly CPU dependent and requires a decently fast disk to load things, and enough memory to keep objects in place. however it's often the draw distance and fillrate of textures for your resolution that kills performance, dropping frames into the 30's or 40's. reasonable settings and appropriate hardware will net quite good performance with dips now and then for loading things, but the game itself is meant to be a simulator so when you crank up the settings again, you're back to square one.I've heard people mention that ARMA 3 is a bitch to run, maybe I'll give it a try.
Yeah, Doom runs like a dream.
I don't know what the deal is with the Sims. It seems to run the same no matter how powerful your computer is. For some reason Sims 3 has a difficult time with newer video cards.

Seriously, why? I remember running that on a Pentium 2 with no major issues lolJagged Alliance 2 runs like dogshit on a new computer and its almost 20 years old.
I can handle GTA5 no problemGrand Theft Auto 5 on max settings can stress a PC pretty nicely, especially if you download the 4K texture mod.

I've built a PC that I'm very proud of and I'm looking for games that really test it.
I don't really give a shit about benchmarks or FPS I'm just looking for games that are known for being really taxing that my computer can run without noticeable slowdown. So far I've played Far Cry Primal and Hitman on maxed out settings and they've been smooth as butter. I'm currently downloading Grand Theft Auto 5 to give it a try.
Does anyone have any recommendations for games that will really punish your computer? Poorly optimized indie games don't count of course.
