Games you turn into a zombie in front of

MTG, DA:I while fetch-questing (I can do most of it half asleep)

Seconding both the above 2. I've lost hours and hours to Stardew Valley, and fucking days to Rimworld.

I've definitely done Factorio for very long stretches. When the expansion pack comes out I'll probably sink another 60 hours in.

Anything with good mechanical variety and stuff to tinker with.
Biggest aggressor is From The Depths, where I've spent a whole day off making and optimizing different types of weapon systems to put on vehicles before, then another day just making variations of the same hovercraft-submarine hybrid tinkered slightly differently to fulfill different niches.

The close second is any card game, whether it's an online TCG or just an offline CCG. Only downside is most online ones have super strict metas and are heavily pay to win, but I can get lost for hours making and optimizing different combo decks etc. Bonus points if it has a draftplay mode.

How do I stop hating all the fetch questing in DA:I? it put me off playing at launch, then 360 didn't get the DLC and I'm getting ready to pick it up again on modern gen. Is the non 360/ps3 version actually good enough that I don't have to dread playing this to complete my entire dragon age playthrough? To it's credit I remember it running like fucking shit on 360 and making my console hot as lava.

What platform are you playing on? I've played DA:I 3 times and never completed it because when my Char gets to max level I get bored as fuck that killing shit in an RPG means nothing (no more xp).
The fetch quests are pointless, do a few side-quests to get some nice gear, kill all of the dragons for the lulz and focus on the main quest+DLC. The game is massive, with loads of content that's worth getting in to.
The astauriums or whatever they're called can be ignored.

If you want to get through the fetch-quests, I slap my headphones on, have the game FX pumping through with no BGM and listen to audiobooks.

If you're on PC grab a few mods and enjoy.

I have to set timers when I play Starsector and RiftBreaker. Otherwise, it's usually stuff that doesn't need too much brainpower like Fallout 4 or Skyrim where I can half pay attention while listening to podcasts or streams.

Katana zero, I use 1% of my brain while replaying the game on hard mode no slow mo

when i was younger
starcraft
diablo 2
warcraft 3

nowadays
diablo 2
civ 5
grim dawn
they are billions

If i ever need to listen to something while resting my eyes on a game, Castle of the Wind is the way to go! It's really old, bat shit simple for a dungeon crawler and oh so stupidly charming. Funnily enough, i never heard anyone talking about it untill Projared recently made a video about it and he seems to share the same feelings. It felt awkward. Like finding out Joe Biden also prefers Metallica's "Kill 'em all" over "Ride the lightning"...

Dyson Sphere Program. Endless optimizations and efficiency improvements become pretty "rote" and braindead actions, so it's easy for the mind to wander. Then you get rockets & sails launching and that dyson sphere screen shows all the little pew-pews hitting and orbiting the sun.

Can't really do this anymore because my time to play games is extremely limited, when I was young it was countless hours in the Age of Empires II, Zoo Tycoon 2, and Sim City 4.

Ironically, most of my time in AOEII wasn't playing the actual game but making countless custom levels all with either fine-detailed levels or scripted sequences complete with story. Unfortunately all of these were lost to time and I've never really had the itch to create levels like I did when I was a kid with unlimited imagination and no job.

gauntlet, dungeon crawlers in general especially once your build inevitably devolves to 1-3 buttons. Path of Exile's gameplay is exclusive to its character building actual combat is mindless.

I did the same, I mostly played with Scenario Editors.
