Gears of War - More like TEARS OF WAR

I wish the co-op for GoW E-Day wasn't limited to only 2 players. Gears 3 and Judgment had 4 players. Let people have fun blowing shit up, FFS.
Scaling Gears of War, E-Day back to basics would help with the horror. Two player co-op is perfect for the Marcus/Dom relationship to foster without much distraction.

Yeah, but then there's no COLE TRAIN BRINGING THE PAIN or Baird around to bitch at the other three for being a bunch of meatheads with no skills besides breaking things.

I honestly feel bad for Baird in the GoW games. He's as much of a mechanical and technical genius as he is infantry and he's stuck with... yeah.

I recommend trying Gear tactics if you're down for a solid spin off set during the OG trilogy. Probably not the best genre for a spin off to a dude bro game lol.
Nothing wrong with exploring different genres with a spin-off.
I always wanted to play Gears Tactics but never bought it. I might wait for the next Steam sales.

Its a good fit for the universe, but maybe not the audience. Would probably do well like Halo Wars if it was a thing during the 360era and not post Gears 5

Let's applaud the community for turning a cover-based shooter into a run-and-gun affair for shotguns.
That's because even in SP the basic enemies are so tanky it takes a good chunk of a Lancer mag to down them. Or you can just get close and nail them in the face with a single shot from the Gnasher. If they want people to play it tactically they should make assault rifles actually hurt things.

The Gnasher feels really good in terms of gunplay, when you shoot and the enemy turns into chunks of meat. The Lancer doesn't feel like that.
As for the more tacitcal approach, just use the Longshot or Paduk's rifle (don't remember what its called).

I'm hearing of an increase of player counts on 2, 3, 4, 5 and UE since the E-Day announcement. Enjoy it while you can.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I don't think the Gears franchise has ever had a bad game. Judgement and 4 were meh and 5 was just alright but they've never made anything that actively made me feel negative emotions or think the franchise has completely gone to shit.

For the new one, my wishlist is simple. A good hoard mode and a campaign that gives you those OHSHITWHATTHEFUCKISTHATTHING moments like Gears of War 1 did. I enjoy all of the games but the first was the only one that really had tension and HOLY SHIT moments where you feel a short burst of adrenaline just because of some crazy looking new enemy.

Gears of War 1 before and during E3. It's a time capsule of how game development used to be twenty years ago. Very laidback, open, visionary, FUN and productive. I cannot imagine something like this NOW from an AAA studio.

I'm glad Epic positioned to have the Lancer chainsaw remain in the series.

1 is a good game that I remember looking incredible at the time. It's a fine coop game but there was too much teasing of what you could and couldn't do.

2 was peak amazing. Literally the best big budget co op game ever made. You want to ride something or get in that tank? Have fun. Shit got crazy and never got stale. I still remember how awesome it was to discover at the mid way point that you could have chainsaw duels. The coop bomb was amazing for the arguments I had over where and how to Carry the dam thing.

3. Meh... It was ok. I didn't hate it but the game being built around 4 player coop when I only had my bro really hurt the set piece factor and the amount of things you could do. Plus it got unreasonably hard towards the end and it wasn't fun to fight the lambent.

Judgement. A much much better gears 3 expansion in my opinion. Really liked how the flow changed completely as locust were no longer conservative and just charged your ass constantly. The portion that took place post gears 3 was kinda lame but I appreciated the effort.

And that was it. Never tried the new ones.

Frankly I rather have a game set during the pendulum wars but whatever, as long as it doesn't sucks...

4 and 5 were bad specially the setting, the difference is that Gears didn't shit the bed as much as Halo did after Bungie left, but then again Gears was never as big as Halo.
To be fair, Gears 1 was a tech demo for the then next-gen Xbox 360. I'm sure the world building wasn't completely realized until Gears 2.
Tech demo that came out like a year after the console tho, would argue it was more a tech demo for UE3.

This video predates HL2:

I don't understand how they haven't done a Master Chief Collection style rerelease for these games yet. It seems like a nobrainer.
I have so many good memories of playing the trilogy in couch co-op and I'd love to finally be able to play it on PC with other friends. Even though I know it will only be half as fun as back in the day.
