Gears of War - More like TEARS OF WAR

Gears of War 2 was the last game in the franchise I played. Would you guys recommend getting into the newer games for someone who hasn't played them?
If you find them for cheap, sure. I don't think the newer entries hold a candle to the original trilogy. The writing has turned juvenile to say the least. Killing robots doesn't have the same impact as meaty Locust.

I remember back in the late 2000's when the first Gears of War game released. It was a big deal back then. I didn't have a 360 so I never played it. I tried the remaster/remake years back but it ran like total shit on my PC. I hated having to buy it on the fucking MS store though. That shit should have been on Steam. It's a poor port anyway. I think I bought it on the Xbox One S I had as well around the same time. I just never played it. I gave that to my nephew a year ago.

The series seems to have gone to shit though so there is no point in bothering. Last I heard they were putting strong wahmens in the games.

I wonder how will Gears of War: E-Day will handle the Lancer chainsaw rifle. AFAIK, the Lancer was not invented during the events of E-Day.

If they DON'T include the Lancer, it may not feel like Gears of War. That chainsaw bayonet is Gears' bread and butter. If they DO include it, they risk having to retcon existing lore from the books and visual novels explaining HOW/WHY the Lancer is being used during the game's events. I think Judgment struggled with that too, but that was a side story spin-off.

Maybe the Lancer could be a pickup weapon on some maps? Maybe players could use a "prototype" of sorts? It'll be interesting how The Coalition and People Can Fly handles this pivotal Gears of War event.

What's the lore of the lancer? Helping with childbirth?

The Coalition has announced a remaster of their remake of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Xbox Series S|X, PC (Steam too) and PlayStation 5 coming out this August. A couple key points I noticed: if you owned the Ultimate Edition prior to this announcement, you'll receive a free voucher for Gears: Reloaded. And, you won't need a MS account for cross-play, but you would need it for cross-progression, according to the blog post.

I think its obvious by now that the Lancers going to be included somehow because its the most defined iconography when thinking about Gears. Sure it would be interesting to see the original lancer or earlier COG weapons get more love. Unless E-Day takes place over a period of years with the first two acts being the Ground Zero of the event and the final 3 being years later leading up to the Hammer of Dawn strikes.

I'm not sure if they're remastering the Ultimate Edition or remaking FROM the Ultimate Edition into its own thing. It doesn't exactly say other than the enhancements that would come with Reloaded. They must have to rewrite the code for the cross-platform play at least.

Shall we make a new game lads? Nah, let's remaster something.
The Coalition is releasing Gears of War: E-Day around next year. This looks to me as them trying to spark interest and relevance of the franchise leading up to E-Day. Now, I'd expect E-Day to feel like an evolved version of the original Gears, not like the stop-and-go fast paced Gears 5.

Hope they remaster a remaster of 2 so we call all laugh at this scene again but in 4K 120fps
There's no remaster of Gears of War 2. Gears 2, 3 and Judgment is exclusive to Xbox 360 with backwards compatibility on newer Xbox consoles.

If they wanted some real money they could remaster Gears 2 and 3 and port those and the original games to PC since they're still Xbox 360 exclusives. Microsoft is fucking inept when it comes to business decisions like these.

Was it really that hard for them to remaster the rest of the trilogy? That being said, it's going to be unplayable unless you have the latest GPU since it's using UE5. (I'm not bringing up the consoles because I always had a bad experience playing Gears on the 360, the motion blur, low FOV and the 30 fps would give me headaches every time)

I'd love to see comparisons between Ultimate Edition and Reloaded. I'm skeptical it's the same game underneath.

Maybe a collection like Halo:MCC with a standard multiplayer suite with all the maps in one. It could run on the same client and netcode to avoid splitting the player base.

I heard the PC version of UE was very botched. I don't like the green color filter with the remaster.

That would make the most sense. But nope. Got to make everything difficult when releasing a remaster collection that would sell.

That would too logical for Microsoft. Remember, same company who last year completely shut down the in-game 360 store.
Imagine they lost the source code to 2 and 3, lmao
They've just been sitting on their asses (hopefully) with it. Another example is Fable 2, still on 360 and could easily be ported to PC. The demand isn't there or they're just too lazy to do it. After killing Halo under 343 shit like that should be their top priority.
