General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

It's more confusion than anything, people didn't expect Rushia to get straight up fired over this (I kind of did after that first statement mentioning leaks) and unlike with Coco's graduation it will not end here and now, people like korekore will not let this go any time soon when the whole story turned more juicy. Much like with Russia nobody knows what might happen next, hololive might even fall apart.
Hololive is not gonna fall apart because of this, not even close, i know we all like to rrat about it but that is not happening, they will loose some revenue and a lot of potential revenue sure, and will also take a temporary PR hit, but the thing with agencies is that they can just keep making new gens, rushia was a big fish, but Hololive has 20-30 big fishes. Even if old fans get jaded and stop watching, new ones are pouring in every day.

For what the word of an indie vtuber is worth. Is he friends with one of the EN girls?

Not to my knowledge but his gay lover nux taku (strangely silent about this whole debacle btw.) interacts with kson, they even had a collab not too long ago and she would understand the situation better than anyone in EN. Noble was always fast to shit on Cover and the fanbase itself, he actually had an atrocious take on some minor Rushia drama back in 2020 before EN debut where he couldn't even get her name right so I'm 99% sure somebody had to approach him.

Exactly, while Null pondering about a dog avatar was a funny little incident, I feel much safer when he doesn't remember that this thread even exists.
Did he ever see the actual Live2D someone in this thread made of the WikiHow dog? Cause that was fucking gold.

Also i'm kinda pissed Kiara canceled the Holobirds collab for that.
Postponed, but anyway. We could argue about whether Kiara "should" or "should not" be affected by this news, doesn't matter -- I'd rather see the collab happen when every one of them is at 100%.

Come to think of it, I feel bad more for Shishiro Botan. Shes in the middle of Russia and Rushia situation and its really unpleasant to look at the chat now.
It's certainly a shitty situation for her to be in, but I'd imagine Botan of all people can weather it. (it's nice being a fan of talents that you can expect and trust to handle things with a level head, in general)

"I want everyone around the world to understand how kind I am."

I'd assume there's some translation fuckery at play. in this entire tweet.
Yes, machine translation from JP to EN is notoriously bad at subjects and objects, because it has to sort of invent the context. Oftentimes it inverts the action completely, so my pure guess here would be that she's saying people around the world have been kind to her.

Well hey, looks like gifted memberships on Youtube are (partially?) rolling out. So now we know what that looks like.

This confirms they can be gifted in bulk, which in turn is (probably?) at random.

However, I checked a few stream waiting rooms where I am a member, and I don't have any UI elements to be able to purchase a membership for anyone (not via clicking on their name, nor in the superchat/membership submenu).

I wonder what they're going to do about the 3rd Gen merch that was recently announced.

The PR hit isn't even catastrophic since a lot of Cover supporters and even Grifters are saying it's understandable under a legal and business standpoint.

Registration is disabled again, lol.

I have a two headed rrat about Calli's tweet. She either actually had a problem with her stomach, worded it strangely, and she still doesn't know what happened to Rushia, or she doesn't like Rushia anymore having heard stuff from JChad, and Rushia was making her sick to her stomach.

Let's be real, we all know Calli overreacted.
It's possible she wasn't feeling 100% ok to begin with when the news hit. She was working until late at night on some songs, and was gonna continue tomorrow, so who knows if she got enough sleep.

Niji told Cover that they had to fire Rushia or NijiEN will never collab with HoloEn
Kiara: I've won, but at what cost?

but who cares if they take literally one day off because of weird vibes.
Legitimately most of this thread seems to care considering all the Care Bear faggotry going on for the last several pages in addition to your reply having to attest and explain why taking a break over something that probably isn't affecting a greater majority of the posters and viewers is fine.

Which, don't get me wrong. I'm apathetic as to whether these entertainers produce content or not at this point. It's just dumb from a professional standpoint because, realistically, nobody collectively stops working their job just because "the vibe is off", you suck it up and push through it anyway. There's far more justifiable reasons to need to take a mental health break, like a death in the family or medical issues (and sometimes a lot of people aren't even allowed the luxury of "time off" in those cases either). But to say "No, everyone should be entitled to a break today just because a war is starting between two foreign powers" is just so bleeding heart that it's asinine, especially when you consider how much bad shit goes on in the world in general that either goes beyond most people's notice or care to begin with.

Some people are acting like the vtuber herself just died, rather than simply killing her own career. Things could always be much worse.

They started rolling out a while back starting with FBK, pekora, La+ and i think Miko, it was also japan only for now i think, so prolly will start rolling to the other JP members soon

I don't think it's cancelled, just postponed. And in a big anticipated collab as an entertainer, it makes sense to wait for drama to pass, regardless of how you feel.

Also, I think it's fair to consider the VTuber (character) as "having died."

I think some of them (esp. Marine & Pekora) were close enough to her that this is going to be disturbing enough to mess with their mood, which is more of a problem when your job is audience interaction rather than filing papers or working a drill press; if the streamer is clearly off their game, it's probably better for the audience that they just not stream. But most of the rest seem to be soldiering on just fine, and even the bird cancellation appears to be more about Subaru's voice than Kiara getting her menhera feathers ruffled. Calli is a perpetual high-stress workaholic who has probably been short on sleep, so I can see her being closer to the edge than the others. Given everything else going on, I'd cut her a little slack.

I'm speaking in a very general sense with the "taking a break" stuff, I never mentioned anything about any particular content getting cancelled or postponed.

I also disagree with equating a terminated contract to a character "dying". Don't you guys usually go on about how vtubers are people behind those avatars and that the person should take priority over the character? How does that suddenly stop being the case over an ending in career? You all know for a fact that the person behind Rushia isn't dead herself.

I would've figured a lot of you might've made your peace with the dichotomy here ever since Coco's graduation/Kson rising to prominence. One job ending isn't the end in and of itself.

Well, this just sucks in general. Especially when, given the nature of what happened, you’re very unlikely to know exactly what happened and why until a long way off, if ever. So the speculation and rrats will just run wild.

I hope everyone involved is able to recover as best they can.

I haven't kept up on this at all, but it blows my mind how menhera they always end up being.

Like, they pull in literal millions of dollars. If they rode the wave for 5 years, it's enough cash to set them up for life. And there is basically one major no-no. Shit, it's not even like they have to be this way for life, just spend enough time to secure a giant bag to be set for life, and then bail.

Like, if someone said "Hey, you can earn $5 Million bucks from lonely weirdos over the course of the next few years, but you can't talk to the opposite gender, have relationships with them, or have sex during that period", so many people would take that deal easily. You can say it's a fucked up culture, but those are the rules everyone agrees to when they enter into the vtuber world. For some reason they always think they'll be the one's who can get it both ways, but they end up fucking it up, lol.

Hopefully one of the hololives necks it soon. Simply getting fired isn't a big enough happening anymore. We need to see Rushia follow through on jumping off a building or going on a classic Japanese knife rampage. I could do with something to take my mind off WW3 and seeing holosimps having a turbo meltdown would be a good laugh
