The funniest part about this whole mess to me is that the person who started it is the one getting all the praise in playing the victim. Like imagine if cover actually gave a shit and decided to go after people. This guy would be ruined and cover could just say that “he endangered our talent.” Now people would be mad at cover and white knight for this dude and it’d all go to hell from there. All because this guy can’t follow a simple rule he should know for “how big of a fan he seems to be.”

This is just another day in the indie vtuber hellscape. "Drop your PNGs" is some bullshit that everyone and their mother seems to be doing and I don't know why. I think I did it for some people I follow and have gotten to know and that's it but everyone and their mother is doing it to amass clout that it just annoys the fuck out of me.
On another note, Reddit is currently circlejerking over Gura's 2 million while pretty much nearly everyone who is saying that she owes a lot of that due to Youtube itself and not her own talent as a content creator (I'm not saying she's bad, but she's very middle-of-the-road for me) is getting blasted. I'm part of the latter camp because I know full well how Youtube works and how it tends to favor promotion of people. If raw talent was the only thing anyone ever needed to succeed on that platform, most of the holostars wouldn't be below fucking YAGOO in subscriber counts. Gura's success is basically lightning in a bottle. She was able to get big doing some memey bullshit despite infrequent posting on other platforms and when she dropped being Senzawa for Gura, her success carried over and gave her a big boost, getting the ball rolling far faster than anyone else in hololive. Since then she's been balling out of control because the algorithm already saw her channel as a safe bet for promotion of vtubers to other people, so she essentially serves as a gateway. People really like to say "she's at the top because she's the best" when time and again that is proven false in other media and content creation. The people here who have their own sections on the farms are still somehow making money despite being horrific pieces of shit.
I dunno. Sometimes I unironically feel vtubers were a mistake, or at least the rabid fandom is making me regret the whole thing's existence. I just want to watch some funny dog girl play a game about a blue hedgehog without all the goddamn bootlicking.
