If you look at all the male streamers that have substantial female audiences, they generally have one thing in common - a sizeable straight male audience. Roberu and Aruran saw their largest growth when they did content that pandered to the sort of shit straight men can enjoy (MREs, memes, and chadding it up with cute girls during the rare collab streams). I wholeheartedly believe that, with a few exceptions, most forms of entertainment only accrue female followings after an initial male following (probably some kind of sociological phenomenon where women want to fit in or whatever).

So fixing holostars is easy - stop playing host club and have them do cool-ass bro streams. Now whether or not that's possible given how conservative Cover is when it comes to managing its talents is another matter entirely.

I agree with this, I don't watch or know much about the Niji male talents but my impression is that they seem to have both the normie and fujo audience in Japan on lockdown. I remember clips of when Gundou was found out by one of her students and when that Apex player unknowingly helped Aqua out and got a few minutes of fame, both knew of and watched Niji guy streamers, and the Apex guy only vaguely knew about Hololive. The idol crowd that Hololive goes after are probably like the "whales" in cell phone games, smaller in number but they'll open their wallets and simp hard.

Male streamers don't have to be super toxic to get an audience. I used to watch a bit of Offlinetv before falling down the vtuber rabbit hole (fuck you don't judge me) and before Hololive EN debuted I always thought that was a possible template they could follow. Lilypichu would be ideal for an EN girl but she is plenty successful and doesn't need Hololive. Disguised toast is funny and snarky as shit and Michael reeves are fun to watch . And motherfucking Sykkuno, his uwu shy softspoken boi persona gets him viewers and a huge female fanbase. I don't get it but it works and iirc he is pretty damn sucessful. Again he doesn't need Hololive but someone could copy his schtick behind a vtuber avatar.

Well shit Sykkuno has a vtuber avatar set up already, an EN Holostars could look like this. Apparently teenage girls eat this shit up.

I think most of the whining about Ame's toxicity is pretty much just ironic at this point. Her chat/viewers already know, tolerate and relish that side of her. Then again, there's a novelty nature to it with her being the first EN Holo perceived to deliberately step out of the seiso expectations. She's also done a lot of work to earn that kind of latitude from her viewers. Anyone following suit from a second EN gen probably won't get the same leeway unless they ease into it.

People compare Hololive to wrestling, but it reminds me more of a first wave of reality shows (20+ years ago), where clueless people were joining first season of "Big Brother" and out of fucking nowhere became stars in their countries. Contestants of 2nd editions knew what to expect, had their strategies in place and so on, and were overall way blander than first editions, so I'm not expecting much.

I disagree. HoloEN cover the US/Canada/Aus/NZ, but they still haven’t tapped into the EU time zone. I say choosing their next talents from the EU pool who can speak multiple languages like the chicken e.g. French, Italian, Etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if they find someone that can speak 5 languages from the EU pool. Gotta collect all the sweet euro. Wouldn’t it be fun to see French only stream.

Kiara's late night streams usually start when I get back from work. Quite often 3D debuts are on weekends, when it's early afternoon in EU timezones, so there's that. Asacoco starts on 10:00-11:00 PM. If want to catch some livestreams, there is usually something to choose from.
Multilingual vtuber is a safe bet - knowing more languages than English and Japanese will be a strong point of any aspiring vtuber's CV.

I have no numbers so back this up, but almost for sure it's the French. Their manga market is HUGE and I'm sure finding someone with French/English/Japanese combo is a possibility. And I want to hear karaoke with French songs.
