Coco is a talent that belongs to the company called Hololive which is currently the most popular in the vtubing(read: anime avatar/puppet streaming) industry. Within that company and the industry in general she is regarded as extremely influential. About 9 months ago, Hololive had business operations in China. Coco mentioned Taiwan in her streams and this broke the camel's back for Chinese fans as incidents like this had happened previously. Hololive sent Coco on a break and broke ties with the Chinese market. Since then, her stream chats have been spammed with chinese bots until recently. However, now that spam is affecting other Hololive talent streams this has led fans of the medium to point fingers at them or incompetency from Hololive management(the talents all have managers/tardwranglers).

A popular and respected "idol" (modelled virtual streamer), who has pulled many into Hololive (an idol group managed by Cover corp, biggest of its kind) and opened a bridge from a previously Japanese-only audience to English audiences, pissed of the mainland Chinese by mentioning Taiwan as a separate country some time last year, and was spammed ever since with the spam also affecting most other members of Hololive. Yesterday she unexpectedly announced she is leaving July 1st.

Because of the non-transparency of media industry operation, we don't actually know if it's mainly because of the Chinese, nor whether or not it was truly her decision or Cover's. Most of what people talk about is "narratives" or "rrats" (wild speculation).

People are upset because she was a fairly respected part of the group, and her "graduation" (discontinuation of the character due to firing/leaving) potentially threatens the stability of the whole company and the rest of the idols.

Other Hololive idols of the three branches (JP, EN and ID for Indonesia) have also been getting quite emotional over their colleague leaving. Many of them looked up to her themselves.

People are going here because reddit is on lockdown over this and 4chan's /vt/ is unreadable over spam and rrats.

Corporate vtuber "graduations" are closer to a celebrity death than retiring since we never get to see the character again in any official capacity after this because the corp owns the IP. Kiryu Coco is one of the most popular vtubers and close friends with many others. People are sad that their favorite streamer announced her upcoming graduation for reasons that can't be said and also mad because nobody believes it's truly voluntary given the current situation (9 months of non stop harassment from schizo chinese nationalists and poor treatment from management.)

Y'know, there's always the joke of "one day your favorite oshi will graduate and you should do your best to support them". And you know that's true, but you push it to the back of your mind. Yeah one day they'll move on, nothing lasts forever. But it won't be now, maybe next time. And the next. And the next.

There's no lie in saying Coco was the reason alot of us are here, simping for women pretending to be anime girls making cute voices. Wether it was AsaCoco, the hip shaking or the Reddit Reviews, she was one of the keyfactors in making vtubing main stream.

What I'm trying to get at, is that we should try to make the most out of the few weeks we have left with her. I won't lie and say I won't cry during the last "Goodbye Motherfuckers", for as autistic as it might be. We'll just keep doing our best to support her.

Thank you Coco for the year and a half of swearing, memes, streams, karaoke, hip shaking and shitty japanese. And for finally convincing me to pick up the Hammer in Monster Hunter.

For everyone worried about her future, her Kson account has been gaining a bare minimum of 1,000 subscribers every ten minutes for the past hour or so, and her Twitter has gained about 3,000 since I last checked it less than twenty minutes ago.

The girl is going to be absolutely, 100% fine. She'll be able to live off the pity superchat money alone for a year.

You can't talk about it anywhere else in detail. /vt/ only barely tolerates breaking kayfabe and is filled with schizos posting rrats and trolling (plus even mentioning kson there will get your post shoah'd). Twitter is full of white knights who either buy the PR spin or don't want to talk about it. And the Hololive subreddit has always been a kayfabe safe space that has now been locked down (not to mention Reddit's general penchant for being lame).

The farms are quite literally the only place with a substantial userbase where you're allowed to talk about anything without interference from tranny jannies.

Rrat time, VOMS is recruiting and Coco graduates, especially when VOMS would benefit greatly from another multilingual talent and Coco would benefit from a better pay scheme and more freedom.
Alternatively Coco is doing this in the belief that if she graduates enough negative energy towards West Taiwan can be harvested and used to manifest the Three Gorges Dam bursting and drowning millions upon millions of bugs.

While I agree, its like saying people will die one day and we should cherish our lives while we can.

It is true. But there's a huge difference between dying of old age or natural causes (cancer, etc) and dying by shooting or rape.

Probably not after Monoe was graduated suddenly due an unspecified 'contract breach.' If she joins another agency, it'd be one that lets her do whatever she wants with little oversight (kinda like vshojo where it's more of an MCN than an actual Japanese-style talent agency).

I kinda doubt VOMS gives much of a shit about the content of the streams, I'm still of the opinion that Monoe was graduated because she either lied about something regarding her age, or she is a public servant. Or if you want to get real spicy she has Yakuza ties/does drugs.

I don't normally post here because this thread moves at a million miles an hour but Coco graduating has been a massive kick in the balls for me.

She and Fubuki are the main reasons I even got into VTubers and Coco especially has been an amazing source of entertainment for me for the past year.

Man, this sucks...

On the bright side the collabs between the other members are getting better imo so it's not all bad.
