General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

If it is *namirin, her channel seems more on the pop side of things (from a glance, haven't looked too deep). But whether it's her or not, it would be nice if we could get a Vtuber doing hard rock and metal (one that's on too short a leash to bring politics into it...)
I also really only know her for the generic moe voice tbh, but I just listened to the crossfade for her first album and surprisingly she actually can do more mature-sounding voices. This song in particular really shows off the contrast between her "cute" voice and her "mature" voice.

I've seen people on the chans say that IRyS's image doesn't fit *namirin, but if she IS IRyS, maybe she's taking it as an opportunity to break out of the kawaii mold she's been typecast into due to the Renai Circulation cover? Sort of like how Gura doesn't want to be stuck in the Senzawa mold anymore. The "dual angel/devil" identity would still give her the freedom to occasionally break out the moe voice if she wanted to, even.

On a side note, if it turns out to not be *namirin I'm going to feel kinda bad that I shilled her so hard given she's not streaming anymore lol

Edit: I have no idea why the theme song she sang for Babylon is nowhere to be found on YouTube but here it is on bilibili if anyone's curious, I think it shows off a more soulful/emotional style of singing.

This song also would really fit the chuuni image IRyS has lol, even has Iscariot (a Biblical reference I believe) in the title

EDIT EDIT: Whoops, didn't dig very hard on that Senaka Awase song, turns out it actually is two different people singing (mature voice is Kakichoco, another old-timer utaite). Ignore the previous sperging lol.

Because till recently, AZKi main gig wasnt even as a vtuber. Outside of it she is incredibly popular, you couldnt listen to anything touhou/vocaloid related without hearing about her.
i listen to a lot of vocaloid and am pretty active and ive never seen anything about her there

Iscariot is if I recall correctly it's the last name of Judas.
I can't remember
Did the KFP or chumbuds come up with something as ridiculous as the Time Square billboard for their oshii's bdays?
Nothing nearly that crazy. Though I think Chumbud's got Dante's VA and KFP got Sam, both made them cry/tear up.

Chumbuds got the VA for Dante from the Devil May Cry Series, who doesn't normally do Cameo-style appearances, to give her a special message. Not as public as the billboard, but not trivial either.

Today is Projekt Melody's birthday. I'll be keeping the info about her to a minimum to avoid the thirstposting as she started her bday stream on CB.

This post is about one of her insane fans that has re-surfaced. About a year ago BetrayedMussel started donating large amounts to Melody, usually with suicidal messages. We're talking 1k$+. This eventually cumulated with two 5k$ donations effectively asking her to talk him out of suicide, on stream. Obviously things like this kill a streamer's mood, and it got him banned from chat and from donating.

Today, he's back, dropping a 10k$ donation with a simple Happy Birthday. If not for the name this wouldn't be too exciting, but it being Mussel people did some digging and found a reddit post about his ban. It may sound like he's talking about someone he actually met, but this is about Melody.

When all of this started to blow up in the west, one of the things I hopped is that it would temper para social relationships. Basically the idea that it being very clear this is a person playing a character and not real would help clamp down on that sort of thing. I know, I'm silly.

I don't mean to repost this but the Finana Truck Driving stream is one of the best kind of beginning to end vtuber streams of the year so far. She's really trying but failing repeatedly. One of the commenters has the time stamps of a lot of moments. From the constant "uh-ohs" to learning how to honk the horn to crashing and leaving her blinker on and not realizing it, a completely stereotypical female asian driver. It took her 25 minutes to finally reverse park on an angle to finish a job and she mentioned she doesn't even have a license in real life. She also looked to have one of her better superchat streams too. I'll take the truck driving game over the Genshin or cooking show game any day, let them play that HGTV House Flipping game Internet Historian played a while back.

It doesn't matter if the person is playing a character or not.

Internet streamers are not your therapists.

Get help from a professional or neck rope yourself in private and stop bothering other people.

edit: I'm surprised CB/streamlabs doesn't have an upper limit of how much an individual can simp. There are very very very few legitimate reasons for someone to donate more than $1000 at once. Anything more than that stinks of credit card fraud.

Iscariot is if I recall correctly it's the last name of Judas.
There are some theories that Iscariot is the region that he was from, rather than a surname.
But, that's off-topic.
As for IRyS, I hope she collabs with AZKi on projects. Poor AZKi carries a lot of weight on her back.

That's more getting into where the last name derrives from, but yeah offtopic.

I really do wonder how HoloEN and JP would far if they had streamlabs. I'm still not entirely sure why they don't have it at least as an alternative to Superchats.
You'd think Cover would want to avoid that 30% cut going to google.

I’m trying to get into vtubing but only knowing one and walking into this thread feels like this:

Anyone got some personal favorites and a nice starting place? The Japanese and English tubers are fine. It just seems like a lot to dive into.
I'd personally recommend these Holomems as a starting point:
Singing - Gura (EN), Suisei or Sora (JP), Risu or Moona (ID)
Comedy - Pekora or Korone's laugh (JP); just listen to them laugh and it'll get you going
Gameplay - Botan (FPS), Okayu or Korone (Retro)
Drawing/Chill - Marine (JP), Ina or Calli (EN)
Background ambience - Roboco, Watame, Flare, Noel, Lamy (depends on your time, all JP), Reine (ID), Amelia Watson (EN)

As for others, it'll be Pikamee, Amano Nene, Pochi-goya, Aoi Nabi, Nayuta

In other news, seems like Pekora is kinda hard to collab with, and thats coming from Marine.

+Kuriri (Yogiri)

Artia used to reupload/mirror streams on Twitch but due to a contract, she has since stopped.

French Fry Cat now has an actual (human) avatar, but I can't be assed to look for it.

Iirc Doris (the mermaid) was chased out of Bilibili for trying to scam people
I thought Yogiri said she's no longer coming back when she retired? Good for her I suppose. From what I've seen she's distanced herself from that shitshow with Coco. Just disappointing she's decided to go to BiliBili but if it's easier to pander with the Chinese than the West + Japan, so be it I suppose.

The reason why Hololive doesn't make that much J-Rock is more of a choice, since some of the members have covers from their past or roommates. Towa loves metal, Rushia's screaming is not only for laughs, she can sing with them really well too (her whole necromancy deal isn't just a theme, she is a pretty skulls and silver kind of girl.) A fucking shame they don't promote that side of them. Though... now that I recall, Rushia is barely hanging on a thread when doing any physical activity, so she may not be able to do her thing even if she really wanted... ):

Anyway, people recommending clips, there are so, so many to pick from! Here some classics from a guy that mostly watches the JP side (nobody on EN calls my attention):

this one perfectly presents you the goddamn usagi, she is an entire discussion to have; just dive in
for the cute side, they are adorable; this pair have years of comedy skits together, give them a watch
you'll finally *get* why so many people connect with them so well, here is the tenshi sperging A FULL HOUR about idols; one of my favorite clips to chill out.
if you want gameplay, have this absolutely underrated series of Luna playing Super Metroid; it's fucking criminal if had to few views; good intro to Luna Hime; don't let her persona fools you, she is classic gaming veteran, as well as a seasoned Monster Hunter expert (been playing the games since the PS2):
for the people that enjoy screaming and raging at videogames... Noel is very special
them breaking character is so fun at times, Matuli...
multiple interactions between generations, between all Hololive really is one of the most entertaining things about it; some people do all point of views videos that paint such an entertaining picture; it's live theatre really. Have the *adorable* Nene for example, watch how different all streams are from each other (and how together it's a whole slice of life anime episode.)
most people have a superficial view about all the hologirls from JP, Coco wasn't only a riot, she was such a supporting and wise onee-san. There is a reason why she was always called "the coolest one" among all Hololive members:

95% of all Hololive JP side are otaku at their core, this is why I love them so much. Most are shut-ins, NEETS, failed idols, failed models, failed singers, failed voice actors, failed artists, country rural modest girls, shamed by their accent; all going for a last big try; it's them having this loser background, them grabbing it, moving forward and exploding in popularity thanks to their best parts finally being able to shine that set them so apart from everything the west have been doing streamer/personality wise. It's such a trip. Man, I'm not even touching how they do concerts, songs, live drawings, radio shows, etc, etc, etc. Not even all the characters, but they are so many (30+!)

Of course newer branches are different; and I'm just doing a very bland and quick statement about them. Just have fun, keep clicking the videos of the ones you find yourself enjoying, and be sure to install the LiveTL extension on youtube. It'll improve your streaming experience so much thanks to live translations.
