If you feel like going through his five years of boomer-fudd rambling and organizing it into a thread, feel free — I’m sure some people would appreciate it and even enjoy some of what you find. I hate Austin because he’s cringe and his content is terrible; I think Shawn hates him because his fanboys have been harassing him for a year.

If Shawn Harper actually kills Austin, I’ll probably watch them all and post anything funny here. He changed the title of his first YouTube video — a speech at Fort Leavenworth National Veterans Cemetery — to ‘Vintage Warfare is a Punk.’ He also has several Shorts that could be seen as threatening Austin. I hope this feud reaches its logical conclusion, but honestly, I don’t care about him or this content either way.

Quite a lot in Europe. If we aren't talking about "real reproductions" like the SD catalogue, Euros have the GSG guys (German Sport Guns) that buy .22 LR repros of "famous guns" (MP5, MP40, 1911, STG44, G36 etc). They often even buy the rights for markings an' shit. Mechanically they're all blowback guns with little or no similarity to their inspirations, but they have a small slice of the market for people that want to fuck around. Their MP40 has even a 9mm variant, but it's a piece of junk nonetheless.

Long tradition too, Italian producers like Pietta or the AP series (that made frankly horrific frankenguns aping the M16, FAMAS and AK) did the same decades ago.

That's why I don't admire Soviet bloc designer since they didn't have to make it commercially viable, much easier.

Gibberish. The Soviet bloc had to manage harsh requirements too, just coming from the top and not from the bottom. Industrial and technological limitations, political maneuvering and personal experience were all influences, just not the skills to manage a business because it wasn't a thing there. Considering Dragunov's or whoever works "inferior" because he had not to obey the rules of the market but the rules of the Soviet is dishonest.

Austin has a bunch of parasocials desperate to fit in with the gun slop drama community. They literally rush to his videos to call him their 'black queen,' the same way Ian’s parasocials call him 'Gun Jesus,' and Garand Thumb’s parasocials call him 'the Flannel Daddy.' They’re probably all the same people, to be honest. If you take issue with the term fanboys, feel free to disregard it and substitute a term of your choice to describe Austin’s parasocial followers who engage in harassment of Shawn—or any of Austin’s other targets—on his behalf.

That's awesome. If you have some way for me to watch them, I'd love to comb through them sometime. This guy is entertaining in such a strange way and I'd love to document his descent. I remember getting his videos in my recommended from time to time and they'd slowly get more unhinged. He's such a prototypical boomerlib too, a very interesting archetype of person, to me at least.

Plus you have companies that make reproductions of old west guns like Pietta, they're pretty alright.

There's an entire industry out there of people making .22lr repros of classic guns. Those work because it's incredibly easy to make a gun that shoots .22lr safely and reasonably reliably, so all you need to do is put the right shell around it and you can make a quick buck no problem. Trying to make a "near clone" that shoots full power/intermediate cartridges? That's where the trouble starts.
