If I recall correctly, it was done by a local group protesting the autistic state gun laws at the time....in Texas, it was legal to carry a long gun openly, but not a handgun, so people carried rifles around to raise awareness.

That's what I remember, yes. But, as usual, the people screeching about it had no idea what that was all about. They just saw "scary thing" and started shitting themselves.

Yep, that's Karl dutifully being a broken clock.

I might be generally pro-law enforcement (got plenty of family and friends in that field), but all that means is that I hold them to a high standard. And thankfully so do my friends and family. One acquaintance aside, everybody I've talked to thinks that whole thing was a fucking disgrace.

If Karl had brought some form of new suggestion, or new perspective, or had played the Devil's Advocate somehow (and done it well, very few things are worse than someone playing Devil's Advocate poorly) I'd give him a pass. But as it sits it's just parroting the same points that other people have been repeating for decades ad-infinitum.

EDIT: To put it another way: The broken clock may be right twice a day, but without a working clock you'd never know when those two times per day actually are.

On Karl's video the back of the bolt is asymetric. The right side has a more complete curve while the left side is machined flat, I'm almost certain that's the sear trip as it allows both sides to be machined flat to make semi-auto bolts for the civilian market.

However I can't see where the autosear is on the lower.
