I hadn't really watched that many Paul Harrell videos before the news of his worsened condition (shame on me). Been watching a bunch of those videos over the last month and the world is going to lose a good one. But great that Roy is keeping the channel going, and is getting more comfortable with each video. Not an easy thing to do to try and continue a popular channel when personality is a huge part of the success of most channels.

Roy posted an update about Paul in the comments of that video:
Part of me is hoping beyond hope that Paul somehow pulls through. I know the chances are miniscule, but he seems to be a tough bastard and I think we could all do with a good news story like that.
From what I've read in this thread and elsewhere, he has definitely lasted longer than people thought. It's going to suck when he passes.

Hell, he's outlived what he himself has stated he had left in him

Headstamp is publishing a book on Hungarian AKs written by a Hungarian small arms researcher/author/veteran/range worker, very niche but very neat.
The specialized grenade launching rifle has a good aesthetic, imo

I'm torn on the repeated crowdfunding at this point, but honestly it's probably the best method of actually selling the book and getting it to the people who want it. Sucks when you want a book and it's bottlenecked by one or two sources that are always out of stock.

Repeated crowdfunding looks like a grift - and it kind of is - but honestly I think it's a revolution in the publication of niche stuff. No more will you put a 'big new book' out there and take your company down if it falls on its face. KS failed? Oh well.

Looks like Hungary is the closest we're going to get the Russian nook for now.

Hopefully we can get a Polish or Yugoslavian book.

The guys over at 9-Hole Reviews looked at the Spear LT barrel flex allegations and attempted to recreate the POI shift from flexing the barrel against the receiver. Spoiler, it flexes. They have the Arisaka fix installed too. Their URGI faired considerably better to the same sort of abuse, not surprising. For ~2,600 bones, I wouldn't want a fucky receiver and middling accuracy. I do have a bias against modern sig and siggers in general though. To sigs credit after 2 shots it goes back to its zero.

His Small Arms of WWII books don't have Kickstarters and neither did his Japanese sword and tobacco books.

I suspect though that the WWII books are just rebranded Vickers' Guide books because James Rupley and Larry wrote two books about German WWII small arms and Ian's American WWII small arms book is much more similar to them in terms of content, size, and styling than his other books. If James had already done the photography for the other nations and since Larry isn't exactly in a position to write books, it seems plausible that James asked Ian to help him finish the books.

Matt of Futt Buckers has continued shittalking the Firearms Policy Coalition(FPC) by stating that they do not take cases themselves but instead take out favors from friends and acquaintances while panhandling and putting their name on cases with no actual skin in the game. Funds are allegedly directed towards employees who show up to the office and suck air.

...and is currently threatening to talk to a journalist, which is definitely more trustworthy than a three-letter organization.

I like Sigs a lot, at least the hammer fired ones. The nice thing about the P320 and P365 is they are reasonably priced and simple. The MCX system looks funky to clean properly, especially the piston area. And they're still over $2.2k for 5.56 which is a bit ridiculous. But... If it sticks as the M7 and is actually accepted by the military, I'll get one.

The 277 Fury the military wants will be expensive. It's fancy design and uses a lot more material costs than 5.56 with probably not much improvement for civilians. The fact that they want suppressors on them by default is worrying as well. I'll hold off on Sig rifles for at least 5 years just to see if the prices come down any, but I doubt they will.

very niche but very neat.

For once, it's a great change. Kickstarter is iffy by design and "follower-cult" buy is a thing, but if Headstamp throws out curated and translated content on specific subjects (for example, following this one we got books on German/Polish/Yugo AKs) that would be a winner.

I won't say it's even a niche subject, for sure it's less .... niche than Japanese Tobacco or early revolvers. You could use it to evaluate pieces you find quite commonly here in Europe, for example.

I'd still kill for a book on Eastern German AKs: pity the DDR approach to both archives and prototypes was very.... destructive, but there are some people doing some great research work nowadays. Hope springs eternal.
