To be clear I'm not saying to go into the AO with a black rifle, spray paint that shit, but for peace time black is fine as a neutral color. (as would be OD, FDE, etc.) I guess my issue is that most FDE/OD guns are not uniform in color and things like the barrel, add-on rail sections, buffer tube, etc. are left black so the FDE/OD parts seem pretty pointless to me. What do I know? I'm just some schmuck that, with any luck, will never have to fire a gun in anger.
back in the ye olde days of US police revolver usage (~1995 and before) black was preferred over nickel/high polish stainless because nickel would catch the light and draw the eye towards the gun and if the sun hit it right it might blind the officer. whether that was a realistic worry IDK, but it was enough that it was something they thought about. eventually matte stainless took over for obvious reasons.
The first FAless upper I used for a build gave me my first experience where it could have used a bump to chamber the first round. Ironic.

Blue vs stainless wasn't that big of a difference price wise. especially when the same amount of polishing went into both at the time. polishing is where the price goes up.
consider that it will probably spend 99% of its lifecycle unpainted in a military that is probably less keen on allowing soldiers to paint the rifle for exercises, especially the minor training exercises, and those few soldiers who are exercising camouflage skills would otherwise be stuck trying to blend a black rifle into a background that is 99.99% of the time not black, otherwise tape is more available and accepted but even then R&Rs can be stupid.. and when it is needed for real world shit that isn't shooting a goat in a sandy hot hellhole, you probably don't have the time for hundreds of guys to play 'dress up' with their unpainted guns so it looks pretty on instagram in the middle of a military target. plus what pocket dragoon said, FDE or another natural color is more ideal for an issued rifle when you consider the realities of serving with such rifles

Tony might have won but I don't think anyone in his team is happy right now. I thought Brandon's run was nothing but a joke, a excuse to say "well I tried" and be able to call himself a Congressional Candidate for memes, But the bastard nearly fucking won. I think this will be almost as big of a wakeup call to certain people as Trump winning was, A guy who had no political past and ran on a docket heavily pro gun almost beat a incumbent in a Runoff Election. This will cause waves even if Brandon didn't win, Frankly the fallout might be greater than anything Brandon would have done as Congressman.
