That's cast lead bullet stuff. For a hollow point frontal area doesn't matter nearly so much as how fast it opens and if the expansion is controlled enough that it doesn't loose petals. There's all kinds of ways (expander plugs, and clever jacket/core design being the prime two) to ensure fast and reliable expansion in a bullet that isn't some 1990's flying ashtray.

Nah, modern JHPs blow the older stuff out of the water. They expand far more violently and to a larger size, this is largely due to market pressures to increase performance since the rabid shitskin problem has become so much worse in the past twenty years or so.
I guess it might be my Hunting attitudes bleeding over. I use Solids/Hardcast to Break shoulders and disrupt and/or destroy the CNS of my game animals.
Personally I'm a fan of aim for the head but I don't hunt anything larger than midwest whitetail and where I live you'll rarely if ever shoot more than 200 yards due to thick foliage and hills. I don't go for bear or moose. Personally I find that for whitetail a solid cast flatpoint .357 magnum out of a 20 inch rifle barrel to the head is very effective.
Where i am the range is often less than 50 yards and i often have to jump shoot them when i bump them. usually they jump up from the brush and run about 10-20 yards and turn back to look at me to see if I'm a threat. I shoot them through the shoulders because the terrain here is such that if don't get a debilitating hit they can easily run off into the brush (god help you if they run into the mountain laurels to die) or down the side of a mountain.

The Dragunov is an entirely semi-automatic design, there has never been a Dragunov rifle that was built to fire in full auto and there probably never will be. Despite this, it does contain certain parts (iirc an auto sear) that are considerd by the ATF to be typical of a full auto design, and thus they label the entire gun as a machine gun, which means it cannot be imported to the US for civilian purposes except as a parts kit.
People own Dragunovs in the US, though, and the HD-18 is available for importation.
