General Wrestling Discussion

AEW is fucking 1996 era WCW compared to the AD-titude era trash WWE is currently making.
I find the general quality of the in ring product in AEW very good. Like WWE, I only watch their PPVs, because every time I turn on Dynamite, it feels like there are several 20-25 minute matches with no story or build, and honestly it just gets exhausting and hard to care about. It's almost the opposite problem WWE has. There's a happy medium here.

I'm watching Raw tonight just to see if there's going to be any "We want Kairi" chants.
I bet you guys a soda that they keep Iyo and Asuka off TV tonight because they want this heat to die down.
Apparently #WeWantKairi was trending hard on twitter and people are pissed. They have every right to be, too. Asuka vs Kairi was a dream match that they had been setting it up for over 6 months just to pull the plug on it before it happened.
Heh-heh, you said "trending hard-on", heh-heh

NOW would be the time to chant for Kairi, assholes.
Jesus Christ, these fed marks are really going to let TKO pull a Stalin and airbrush Kairi right out of the picture.
That's nothing, the Raw is War intro that was used from 1997 to 2002 or so, by the time they stopped using it, had over half of the guys in it leave the company to the point where they were only using the longest shots from the original footage, but some were still identifiable. including Bret Hart.

Idk people watch aew and that's just as bad
It's funny how WWE PPVs now have so little wrestling amongst the ads, short matches and self wankery with celebs for an expensive price while AEW just has constant matches for god knows how long before it gets stale. At the very least, it's cheaper to watch AEW than WWE.

You'd think WWE would want more matches on their PLEs so they could fit even more ads into them. Both nights of WrestleMania could have easily had 8 matches and they could have asked for money for commercial spots.

I don't often get irritated at the stupid world of wrestling, but Meltzer and his gaggle of nerds trying to claim that Hulk Hogan wasn't significant in the growth of pro wrestling absolutely works me into a blithering, steaming shoot. He's always had this weird hateboner for Hogan dating back to the early days of his publication because he wasn't japanese guy #1234213 sawdusting his neck in 60-minute fake fights at the Tokyo Dome.

The only reason his opinion has any traction now is because Hogan is dead and Hogan got caught in a private conversation saying the gamer word so any and all good Hogan did is null and void because he's "racist" or something. Hogan is nowhere near my favorite wrestler but denying him that spot simply because you don't like the man Terry Bollea is petty, mean girls-level behavior.

Why do you care what Meltzer thinks? He's a fucking nobody.

Meltzer's a senile bastard at this point (remember he claimed that Shibata had his brain removed during surgery) and anyone who still believes his word salad as gospel are just as clueless as him.

In his latest "brilliant" take, Bubba Ray thinks Tony Khan should hire Zoey Starks and have her, basically, do a shoot promo against WWE for releasing her. Hearing that part of the podcast episode, he equated her situation to Steve Austin being let go by WCW and his brief time in ECW. Putting aside the likelihood of burning bridges, Zoey may only appear on television for several weeks after her debut before Tony moves on.

Here is AEW's current women's division that includes wrestlers who are mainly featured in ROH and on the inactive list. What are the chances she will be able to stand out in this promotion as oppose to TNA?

It's not so much that I care, it's that he's grandfathered his way into having a significant amount of influence that actively harms the American wrestling scene. He disguises his opinions as fact-checked reporting and people who don't know better take his word as gospel and make half-brained decisions based simply on his tastes. I hate to give the spud credit, but American wrestling would've been better off without Meltzer.

I'll only counter with this as a pro Meltzer argument. If he didn't have a virtual stranglehold on wrestling "media", being it's biggest name and having outsized influence, that same "media" would have been hijacked by troons years ago.

As utterly vapid and often downright stupid as his takes are, he's a good gatekeeper, insofar as keeping the real loonies, at bay. I also realize he's not trying to be, afaik, but somehow, that's how it's worked out

EDIT: clarification

Not at all surprising that you'd be that ignorant, given the rest of the post, but you DO know who the first IWGP champion was, don't you?
