PL but I happened to meet an IRL acquittance (somewhere between friend and acquaintance) who unbeknownst to me was playing the game so we talked a bit and shared UDs.

Apparently she skipped all side quests until I made an off-hand comment about the tea-carp mountain adventure Liyue quest and that got her interest.

Why? Because "lesbians" she concluded after reading about the quest and learning that the main two NPCs were female and what their dilemma actually was.

She was adamant that Fujin and the dragon-lion were lesbians. She is also convinced that Beidou is canonically a lesbian and has a girlfriend. I ignored the first part but pointed out that no player character has a romantic relationship or even confirmed sexuaity because 1, China and 2, gacha.

She ignored it by changing the topic and has since removed me from her friends list. Okay. No skin off my nose. I just find it rather amusing because I mean....Ningguang and Beidou ain't fucking. They aren't fucking anyone AFAIK.

Edit: What I don't get is why this should even be a problem. If they are all blank slates or kept ambiguous, why is this something to be upset about? You can just impose on them to be he/him lesbians or whatever while the rest of us don't give a shit because we don't have our brain rotted by shipping shit.

Lol I had something similar happen to me with Tekken because of Lee Chaolan. He looks kinda faggy in some outfits so obviously, he was the gayest gay that ever gayed. Unsurprisingly the person saying this was a fujo and just assumed based on his appearance.

I had to tell her that Lee was very straight. He might be one of the straightest characters in Tekken who doesn't have kids because he's always having a girl on his arm in most if not all his endings.

Lebsian subtext never crossed my mind once between Fujin and Lingyuan. Rather I read it as the latter feeling alone after both Fujin and the snake fucked off with the humans whereas Lingyuan looked down on humanity for its collective hubris and destruction of nature but was thoughtful enough to entertain the idea of humans thanks to Little Mao.

Sounds a hell of a lot more nuanced and interesting than "lesbians". Idk, it reads to me as a close friendship with a degree of vulnerability considering there used to be a third friend (the aforementioned snake) who is no longer present.
