in fairness calling it shit is probably too harsh, I think the years have just amplified my annoyance with the ending.

Too sentimental? I hear you. To each, his own. And, I agree. The ending is the weakest part of the film.

Not usually a fan of movies that revolve around romance myself, but that one sucked me in with thoughtful performances from Carrey and Winslet, the unconventional script from Charlie Kaufman and the inventive direction of Michel Gondry. Kaufman also wrote Being John Malkovich, another favorite of mine.

I was thinking about it a lot, and his movies remind me a lot of my feelings about The Truman Show (although admittedly more subtly) which is that I’m never 100% sure whether I’m supposed to leave the movie being cynical but optimistic or sentimental but pessimistic.

Which is clearly intentional to make you sort of repeat your own version of the character, which is why I said it makes sense he made Synecdoche. But it’s like…. Pre-nostalgia if that makes sense? Like you’re reflecting back on decisions you’ve yet to actually make. It made me suddenly feel very old.

Lol I love Eternal Sunshine but I’m the exact demographic that would. For me it’s one of those movies that’s more of a feeling and a vibe than anything else, oddly similar to The Wall or something. Like I can’t tell you what happened but I have memory of moving through a lot of emotions, just the visuals and score were enjoyable for me.

Also, Parasite is not Hollywood so what the fuck are these Amerimutts smoking when writing this shit.

And these are things I can fucking list without shaking my head, these movies are way above Get Out in every category from story to cinematography. Also why in the fuck is Black Panther in the goddamned list when District 9 isn't even mentioned.

Erm, it’s certainly great, is it the best I don’t think so, what was this list predicated upon? Also it’s a bit earlier to be making judgements on what’s the best? We still have 4/5 of the century left!
 
There Will Be Blood is a very good film. But I'm not sure it should be a contender for best script because at least half of the film is silent vistas and montages set to music. The script is good but it's good because it provides an excellent canvas to hang some beautiful direction and acting upon.

I've not seen Get Out but know the premise. Are the people who all want to be Black explicitly wealthy liberals? Because if so that would be hilarious.

Holy shit this list is bad. According to this group, the best (screenplay of a) Pixar film of the last 21 years was…

Inside Out. Over a full six other Pixar movies that made their cut, (Wall-E, Up, Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, Toy Story 3) Inside Out was their “best”.

They somehow have Borat on the list, which is barely a screenplay. Black Panther showing up yet having The Father nowhere to be seen is probably an indication that they’re still not over the latter film “stealing Boseman’s award” this year.

Fuck them. I think Boseman would have agreed that Hopkins deserve that award.

I actually liked Get Out overall, but it really had the unintended damage of inflating Jordan Peele's ego to the point that he thinks he's a genius. I believe his next movie was Us, and that was a mediocre Twilight Zone episode, at best. And he then turned around and made a shitty remake/reboot/sequel/whatever-the-fuck-quel of Candyman. And yet because he's Black and made one really good movie, he's untouchable now. Great.
