Steam had an 80% off sale for the franchise so I nabbed both Wildlands and Breakpoint.
A few hours into Wildlands right now. On ultra settings the game still looks pretty good, though I get annoying asset pop-ins even with draw distance turned up to max. Gameplay is good so far -- scouting an area and then having your squad pick off the enemies can be fun, though the squad AI tends to be either absolute killing machines or brain-dead retards with nothing in between. I actually find the amount of guns to be kind of annoying because nothing ever feels like a decent upgrade, instead it's always just slight increments. The skill system seems completely pointless and tacked-on. I avoid any side mission that deals with planes because they control like absolute shit. I also don't like any mission that deals with trying to disable a convoy because your squad is too stupid to aim for the driver or otherwise disable the vehicle and you quickly accrue a dozen other enemy vehicles coming at you.
The story and writing is so far fine. I do like the various notes and recordings that flesh out the cartel members. I wish the main character was either a rookie silent protag or a more pre-defined character. Same with the squad; giving them unique personalities, backstories, and specialties would've been more interesting. Instead you and your team feel like amorphous blobs, which I'm assuming is largely due to the game being meant to be played in online co-op.
