Something I put together after the first trailer hit...

Ghostbusters 2016 isn't a bomb but it is definitely underperforming. Sony didn't make this movie to just "break even".
One thing that's always amusing to keep in mind: If the movie breaks even, that doesn't mean Sony is "at square one", it means it was an economically bad decision thanks to the "cost of opportunity". Had Sony invested that money in a different project (that didn't suffer such a lukewarm response), the return on investment would have been higher. Hell, even just leaving their money in the bank would have resulted
in them making a few bucks due to the interest they collect.
The longer GB needs to break even, the bigger the discrepancy between the investment in GB and literally investing in anything else grows. So it looks dubious whether Sony will actually go through with their announced sequel. That's most likely just a means to drum up PR and won't leave the planning phase.

I'm in the camp of people who believe that Sony will do a sequel, but with a mixed-gender Ghostbusting team, a smaller budget, and probably not Paul Feig as director. They have too much invested in the "Ghostcorp" studio sub-division to stop the franchise after just one film that didn't quite meet inflated box office expectations but which isn't exactly a bomb either.

So... Extreme Ghostbusters? I will watch that.

I think it's more likely we'll get another reboot a few years down the road like what happened with Spiderman (twice now). So you're kind of right and wrong at the same time.

Sony knows this movie is shit so I think they will just pretend that it never happened and move on with something different. But that depends on Amy Pascal and Tom Rothman's role in this debacle. And so long as these two assholes are leading Sony then it's not going to be looking great.

The problem in relity isn't the ladies, it's that they turned Ghostbusters into a chickflick, all humor was aimed at a women-audience... of course there will be salt, they probably hoped the salt would turn into gold by sheer controversy, i'm glad it looks like they failed though.

But Feig swears this is not a Chick film: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...-calling-the-film-a-chick-flick-a7067211.html

Never mind that Sony reported that they were targeting the female audience some days before the premiere...

Saw it.

It was mediocre.

My childhood is intact, original will always be better because nostalgia glasses.

Didn't see it as a feminist anything, just another churned out comedy movie that happened to be a remake and happened to star women.

Both sides are laughably insane and making something out of nothing at this point.
