This. The movie could have been really good if they basically made it Bridesmaids but with ghosts. Instead they made the incredibly strange decision to create an ode to third wave feminism that's extremely hateful and condescending towards men and anyone else who disagrees with their agenda.

How'd they do that? They were too timid to even have a lesbo much less a tranny.

I thought it was really good.

Sexist bigots should calm down not every movie is made to appeal to them.

I'm just glad we finally get a mainstream movie with a strong female black character who doesn't fit into any of the vicious stereotypes society has produced.

Weirdly my Facebook has been very quiet on Ghostbusters which is strange because it's been out here nearly a week and my Facebook is a leftist utopia. I only saw someone post something about it today and it was a link from Jezebel saying the film had made $3.5 million on opening weekend. For background, the person who posted that link is a Hillary supporter (an enthusiastic one, not a former Bernie supporter who's only supporting her because she's not Trump) and thinks mansplaining is a thing.

That is pretty much the scene Jones should just have walked out of the studio.

I've seen repeatedly that they estimate the movie is going to make 45-50 Mio dollars this weekend and are comparing that to the opening weekend of the original, stating that when you correct the number for inflation, the new Ghostbusters would have beaten the old one.

It looks like the Ghostbusters reboot will earn around $45 million at the domestic box office this weekend, which is on the low end of "good but not that great" for a movie with a $150 million budget, plus dozens millions more in advertising. It's higher than Sony's own prediction for the weekend, but keep in mind that studios generally lowball their own predictions so it's more likely that they can say a movie exceeded expectations once the "actual" weekend numbers are in, usually on a Monday.

you're forgetting the international market

People really need to chill out; it's only a movie. Does it really matter that much? It's not like the originals are getting shoddy revamps or anything.
It does to those that get salty from either side. The fact that it's all over a stupid movie only speaks of how these people go over the line in. If you dislike the movie, you get idiots thinking you're some sexist that hates women. If you thought the movie was decent, you could salty idiots thinking you might be some beta-cuck supporting some SJW crusade even it's just a movie trying to bank in through the name of a well-known franchise.

They had to try and appeal to some group that could of given them money but all they get at most is (based off information that was posted) is salty comments and empty movie theaters.

Not really, I was just specifically responding to people spinning the middling neither-bust-nor-hit domestic weekend box office results either way.

The international box office for Ghostbusters 2016 took a huge blow when China banned it for having ghosts (a big no-no in China these days). China is one of the most lucrative international markets for films to the point where some movies that fail to ignite the box office in North America like Pacific Rim end up being profitable enough for a sequel thanks, in large part, to Chinese moviegoers.

Chinese moviegoers only went to see Pacific Rim because they were so happy to see the Japanese get their shit pushed in and Tokyo wrecked though

And Charlie Day. That loveable little fella.

It looks like Ghostbusters made a little over $45 million at the box office this weekend, finishing behind The Secret Life of Pets for #2 in box office rank.

So considering the budget, and the fact that it was banned in China (as mentioned above), this movie seems to be lucky if it will break even in profit margin (which, if I remember correctly, has to be double what the budget was). Considering this isn't the kind of movie that gets repeat viewing in the theaters, this may be a box office flop. Prepare for salt, either way.

Secret Life of Pets was also just bad timing for the ghostbusters guys, as going against a movie made by the bastards who successfully forced Dispicible Me on us to the point of an insane marketing fad was never going to end well. Remember the Minions Movie? Yeah, that grossed over a fucking billion. Sleep well on that knowledge.

The Minions movie also didn't try to mock its haters in its marketing campaigns.

They may be annoying as all hell to most people, but I can see how they can be considered funny and "charming" to certain audience groups.

This is really offtopic, but has this film basically confirmed everybody's suspicion that Melissa McCarthy is the female Adam Sandler?

More like the female Kevin James. She's more of a wingman than a lead. Kristen Wiig is more of the Adam Sandler of that group.
