After having played the latest even for Girl's Frontline I though I should make a thread in case people wanted to discuss the game in the future.
Been around longer than most gacha games, but for those who don't know...

Girl's Frontline is a chinese gacha game set in the near future where the world experiences armed conflict in eastern europe, a refuge crisis threatening
the stability of the continent, a rise in political extremism, AI singularity, and a conspiracy involving the highest levels of government and private interests
giving out a dangerous vaccine on behalf of a homicidal cult 🤔
It has turned based gameplay using 2D sprites, and a difficulty that ranges between easy to whatever hell this is

So why would I recommend it? Mostly because the story, characters, music, and art ranges from good to among the best in the genre.
The original chapters isn't much to boast about, but as the game got to its second or third major event it turned into a genuinely enjoyable
experience where you actually want to push forwards to see where the story takes you.
Plenty of memorable moments like one where a combat doll gets her arm torn off, then proceeds to use her severed arm as a cudgel as she crashes
through half a dozen walls as she pursues her foe in a moment of singular rage.

Did I mention how good the music is for its genre?

There's also a sequel being made using XCOM gameplay, but I'm not sure if I'm going to play it as they've changed the gameplay, style, and setting a bit

The story is fun, a mix of waifu faggotry and Metal Gear Solid, but game itself is shit. I played it while I was on company hours all the time, but now that I'm a neet I can't justify the daily grind that takes over an hour, and has probably gotten worse since I stopped playing a year ago. Type 97 is best girl and gun.

Wholeheartedly agree. I enjoy the fan art that gets posted on /k/, but i stopped playing after it started taking 1-2 hours to accomplish daily tasks, while making progress on the story maybe once a week. Still enjoy the art, but soppo is toppo.

I play it once every few months, but it isn't really a game, i hope gfl 2 is decent since it seems to have actual gameplay, we are finally reaching the point where gacha games can have actual gameplay and be slightly more than glorifed slot machines with 2 hour wait times for each result.

Any of you see that Nikke(?) game, seems to be nothing more than a excuse to have poorly animated asses giggle on your phone screen, anyone here try it?

With all those gacha I always hope they'll eventually make a regular game with the original plot and designs that will at least have character models and less gacha elements.
A squad based shooter in the setting would be cool, but it would honestly be difficult to adapt the story which at this point would have a script at thousands of pages. It's basically a massive visual novel now.

I haven't played it, but I saw some footage and it's ludicrous

Having the gameplay of Valkyria Chronicles would probably work, but it's one of the cases where no game will ever try to copy good gameplay because it's considered too unique/complicated.

I played the mobile game a bit.

It has a nice tactical map, an okeyish if mediocre combat part, and the art is pretty but the ui is one hell of a hot mess.

The most fun was the tactical map, some really had you think how to get them, as you have to avoid the enemy moving to your base while doing the mission with set paraments, like "Kill X enemy units, take only Y turns" . The art is nice, the in battle combat is just use abilities, so its somewhat less engaging than Azur Lane or Konosuba. But the real downside is the UI which is extremely busy and cluttered. There is way too many systems and it can get overwhelming fast.

I'm not sure if the features were added gradually, and I'm sure most of them sounded good on paper, but the execution became messy. If that does not bother you, give it a try.

I think the developers have always been a bit self conscious about their battle system being a bit simple ,so they've turned it up to 11 on the tactical map for quite some time.
I guess people enjoy it, but it can be quite a mess on the higher difficulty mode. This event there's an EX map with gates, planted explosives, bombs, elevators, substations for power, teleport panels, hidden areas, infinitely spawning enemies, repair and supply nodes, three NPC echelons to juggle, and the objective changes half way into the map, so you better hope you weren't betting all on surviving that last round lol

It kind of sucks when you have spent probably 4-5 years in the game only to get your account inaccessible unless you either:
- willingly hand over your personal data
- scrounge up a dead citizen ID numbers or generate one hoping it would work

That's me, playing Girls Frontline in CN bilibili server. Started back when Operation Cube is half-done, and I think I was unable to play during CN's Poincare Recurrence (which is what Global/EN server event is currently going on) because Bili tightened the login access and everyone is forced to hand out their ID or sent passport details for foreigner. That means I missed Fixed Point and Longitudinal Strain

Game is fun early on, but after a long while, it became something a grindchore, especially if you're not that committed and not being able to catch up with things like new MOD3 and all. I frankly misses those new guns that CN currently getting (I want AR-18...), but considering the game is still censored heavily and that it's kinda better to just read the event story on your own, I think I really have to let the game go.

That said, Project Neural Cloud is coming to Global in like, 10+ days, so that's something to look forward.

That sucks. I remember considering to get into the CN server, but chose not to as I found out that the EN version was going to have a beta for pre registered accounts in just 4 months. I'm glad I avoided having to deal with the chinese side of things even if content was always a year behind.

It's a fun ride, all things considered. If not because of the game, it's because of the community, at the very least. Not as big yet dedicated and on the CN side of things, the devs is often considered to be shitposters themselves or some kojimbo level mastermind.

And this with the CEO who got accused for stealing money to buy Ferrari and also drawing his own T-doll in-game (6P62)

Honestly i love the concept of the game as I've been a long time player of Azur Lane. But the resource mechanic kinda puts me off.

I played it years ago. Invested a lot of time to it while in the Army. Love the designs, love the guns, but the gameplay loop gets old. Such is the case with most gachas. I just remember that the grind became real bad at one point and it was blatantly trying to influence me to spend money.

Oh Christ this game, the game that is /k/'s breeding ground and the butt of all jokes in gun discussions. A tiny, yet whiny and absolutely lunatic community filled with coom and politics. A game studio that combines Chink autism with Western delusions. The game that somehow manages to merge the worst aspects of MSG4, Halo 4 and the Eva Rebuilds (from a plot perspective such as demystifying the enemies, politics galore, human-robot merging and a tonal whiplash of robots doing cute things to super serious plot-sharttering revelations) and Halo 2 (the fuckawful code and bullshit difficulty) sprinkled in a gacha game.

Definitely do not recommend. Fuck the game and anyone who even remotely shares an interest in it.

Tonal whiplash? It's like you haven't been exposed to anime before.
Also Halo 2 was a great game.
Speaking off political autism, there's a part in the latest event where PPK sings Erika as they're fighting, you wouldn't see that in a western game I suspect
