Finally got around to watching murder drones, and it is very difficult to follow. All the characters are very one-note, the premise is dropped almost immediately, the plot progression just kinda seems to happen with zero input from the characters, but it was animated good at least.

Yeah pretty much hit the nail on the head. It really feels like Liam tried to cram as much as he could into the 8 episode limit but it just turned the entire thing into a clusterfuck.
If he had chosen to focus on the plot or at least the characters it might have been salvageable. Instead we got a very messy plot with characters that literally did not have enough time for a proper character arc.

Imo he probably should've just kept things simple instead of whatever the fuck he ended up doing instead. There's nothing wrong with straight forward simple plots as long as you do them well.

In Murder Drone's case from what I can gather it seemed like originally Murder Drones was planned to be way longer, at least two seasons at most. (Unsure of how long or if they would've both been 8 episodes still. Sorry.) and then either Liam was talked into or just decided on his own to ditch all of that and condense everything down into 8 episodes only.

Take this all with a grain of salt, this is just all speculation on my end from things I've heard and read.
That being said, if true it would explain a fair amount. Though I ponder what would have possessed him to make such a decision.

Tbh at first I thought what was going to happen was the series was going to reveal that the corporation was doing some Weyland Yutani ass shit trying to harness the power of some eldritch bullshit they discovered but it backfired on them. Instead once the eldritch entity is introduced the corporation kind of just... disappears from the narrative more or less. Not even mentioned in passing. It was kind of jarring actually.

The Circus show and the entire culture surrounding Glitch fascinates me, so I wanted to give my two cents on something I discovered earlier and see if I'm just being a crazy schizo retard or if this is worth talking about.

Matt actually started working for GLITCH in September of 2023, a month prior to the release of the TADC pilot. I think around the time of the second episode's release, they stopped working with their former merch partners at Juniper Creates and instead created their own merch company because the demand for Pomni and Jax plushes was too high (at least that's what someone on Reddit claimed so take that with a grain of salt.)

This is probably just me being cynical and intrinsically not trusting anyone who had anything to do with Creator Clash 3/is friends with MrBeast, but I don't know, this to me seems like talent poaching.

Months earlier, I lamented about the possibility of this same exact thing, a graphic novel retelling of the story, hoping it could have dealt with the horrible pacing issues and making everything easier to watch (or read through in this case), and it looks like it's a reality.

It probably won't still be that good, the underlying philosophy behind the show's creative direction that would necessitate a complete rewrite from the ground up, but, hey, maybe this second attempt could have better results.

The greatest flaw Murder Drones had was its storytelling. I firmly believe that this show has a rather good foundation. The aesthetics and the horror elements were solid, and the plot was not terrible either (I was autistic enough to understand it). The biggest problem the show had is that Liam was its writer. While he nailed the atmosphere, he is a genuinely terrible write IMO. The show could have been a lot better if they had an experienced co-writer babysit Liam and stop him from making terrible decisions.

Liam clearly wanted the show to have comedy in it, like Gravity Falls, but one thing he failed to consider is when characters should take the situation they're in seriously. Gravity Falls succeeds as a hybrid between horror and comedy because it knows when shit hits the fan and the characters do behave accordingly. Episode 4 of Murder Drones is a clear counter-example of this. It's hard to take the events of the show seriously when the characters themselves don't take it seriously, and without any threat, the horror aspects fail as well. The most competent character of the entire show was a side character from the beginning of episode 7. A random man who doesn't even have a face and has only a single appearance with barely any screentime took the reality he was in more seriously than almost every other character, especially our main cast. It would've been an already great improvement for the show if it was more like those two scenes that had that random dude in them.

Pacing was also a weakness for the show, almost as if it wanted to gather a demographic primarily made up of children & teens with ADHD, which is rather ironic, as TADC managed to be way more successful with that demographic, and it had several slower screens just for character development and backstories. The show being cryptic about its lore didn't help either and the fast pacing made it really easy to miss all the important details. In the end, the plot does make sense, but it requires the advanced autism of multiple people to solve this absolute mess.

Anyways, I hope the graphic novel will be able to improve the flaws of the show. I genuinely like Murder Drones despite its major flaws, and I hope this adaptation will bring justice to a show that could have been a lot better if it didn't have a cretin as its sole writer.

I completely agree. I said it before probably multiple times in fact. Murder Drones had everything else right, the biggest issue was that the writing was abysmal dogshit.
Again it's part of what makes it so frustrating, he had everything he needed.

• Good Animation
• Good Atmosphere
• Good Design/Art Style
• Good Music
• Good Voice Acting (At the very least none of the voices particularly annoyed me or anything.)

So it's extra frustrating when it came so close but fell short. Hence probably why I spent so long talking about it before in this thread. It pretty much demonstrates that no matter what at the end of the day, no matter how much budget you have if your writing is bad then none of it matters unfortunately because the entire product is going to be tainted by that awful ass writing.
I wanted to like the show, but Liam made it very very hard to. So hopefully this novel is able to redeem it. Preferably by actually providing context that the show fails to and also giving the plot time to fucking breathe please.

I think most of the problems I had with Murder Drones would have been solved if Liam had another writer to work with. I think this didn't happen because Murder Drones was Liam's first big project that he worked on full time, and as a result, he didn't know any better. I am hopeful that the graphic novel would be better since, after Murder Drones ended, Liam admitted on Discord that the plot could use some improvements.

I would recommend the web series as a one and done deal for this reason alone.

So, what's the plot to Murder Drones? I wasn't autistic enough to understand it, and I don't find the explanation provided by Wikipedia to be satisfying.

Here's a quick rundown from memory:

• The Absolute Solver is a supernatural entity that wants to consume the universe, but it needs a host to do that
• If a drone's core is not disposed of correctly after death, it can be possessed by it if the drone reactivates
• CYN is an improperly disposed drone; it reactivates and consents to get possessed by the Absolute Solver, becoming the main host (it probably lost all of its identity in the process)
• Autistic loner Tessa likes to refurbish discarded drones and takes CYN/the Absolute Solver home
• The Absolute Solver kills everyone in the manor and turns the drones there into a mindless army of killers machines with limited solver powers
• J, V, & N are spared from losing their identity, but their memories are tampered with; Tessa becomes a skinsuit for the Absolute Solver for LARPing purposes
• The Absolute Solver destroys Earth by having pillars of dead drones constructed (probably related to their cores)
• Humanity tries to defeat the the Absolute Solver by making a drone that is patched from being possessed but retains the full powers of the Absolute Solver
• They fuck every single time and their planets are destroyed
• Humanity was most successful on Copper-9 and managed to create a patch they wanted to make and patched Yeva
• Nori blows up the inside of the planet because of getting possessed and the USB drive with the patch (MacGuffin #1) arriving a little too late
• Humans die, but the drones survive the explosion
• The explosion takes them from the underground lab where they were experimented on to the surface, and they become parents to Uzi (Nori's daughter) and Doll (Yeva's daughter)
• Uzi and Doll inherit the powers of the Absolute Solver, but they are not patched
• Meanwhile, the murder drones arrive to destroy Copper-9 by killing worker drones and building pillars out of their corpses
• Yeva gets killed by V
• Nori survives being killed (killer unknown), but only her core remains
• She abandons her family in search of the USB drive with the patch on it; everyone thinks she died

This was the hard part of the story, as you have to patch it together through multiple episodes, and many details were rather minuscule and could be missed with a blink. These are all the events taking place before the first episode. The rest of the show is more straight forward and I'm going to keep it as short as possible.

• Uzi is an autistic emo lolcow no one likes; his father, Khan, is very disappointed in her
• She builds a gun to kill murder drones, hoping she gets everyone's approval after that
• She fucks that up and many drones die, including J, a murder drone, but gets N & V, two murder drones, on her side
• They try to understand what the fuck is going on in the first place while shit is happening
• Doll doesn't trust them and is able to use her solver powers
• Uzi also learns to use it after her fight with Doll
• Uzi loses control over herself while trying to find clues, kills many of her classmates, and then returns to a more normal state
• After finding some clues and a robot cockroach that also acts as a keycard to the lab (MacGuffin #2), she tries to stop N & V's memories from being wiped out by the Absolute Solver by hacking into their minds
• Doll steals the cockroach during this, tries to coöperate with J (resurrected by the Solver) and Tessa (Solver LARPing as her); these two pretend to be against the Absolute Solver
• Uzi is successful with the hack; the Absolute Solver loses its control over N & V
• Uzi, V, and N go to the same place Doll, Tessa, and J are; Doll fucks off with the cockroach
• Everyone tries to get to the underground lab where the patch was made, except J, who activates the corpse pillars secretly off-screen
• Uzi keeps losing control again; she reveals her powers to Tessa/the Absolute Solver accidentally and becomes its main target
• Doll gets killed by Tessa/the Absolute Solver while she's trying to find the patch, then it eats her core
• N finds Nori with the USB drive
• Uzi gets possessed by the Absolute Solver, destroys the USB drive, but returns to normal after a fight with N and Nori
• The Absolute Solver stops LARPing; the planet's destruction begins
• Uzi no longer gets possessed because she stops being a little bitch (yes, the show literally says that)
• Epic anime battle happens; J gets her ass whooped
• Uzi defeats the Absolute Solver by taking out its core from its body Indiana Jones style and eating its soul afterwards
• The planet is saved; the story ends
• Uzi now has two extra souls inside her body: Doll's and the Absolute Solver's

This is the whole story, I think. I skipped some filler in the process. There's probably a ton of mistakes in my grammar, but it is 4 AM here and I cannot be bothered to correct them all.
