I won't judge it too much since it took me until around episode 5 for me to actually like Digital Circus.
I really like the varied female character design. Frankie especially since she seems like an average woman you'd meet in the real world.
Hoping we see more of the theme park and creepy Disney shit next episode. I think after another episode or two I'll give my thoughts.

Just watched the pilot. I was skeptical going in since it's Dana Terrance's work but I ended up really enjoying it, actually. The character design is great, the background art is gorgeous, the characters are charming if a bit simplistic (hopefully a problem that will be resolved as the series goes on and the characters develop), it shows far more than it tells when it comes to exposition, and I enjoy the freaky biomechanical body horror shit. If Dana manages to reign in her worst impulses and stays on track and keeps these vibes with this kind of pacing for the rest of the series instead of getting bogged down in filler, fluff, and twee tumblr yurishit like she did with Owl House, it'll be a genuinely good series.

My only major criticism is that some of the voice acting is ROUGH- ProZD is mid and rangeless as always, the black shopkeeper isn't very good, and young!Olivia is distractingly bad imo. The voice acting directors- Dana, Zach Marcus, and John Bailey Owen- are also the main writing team with no experience in voice direction and it shows. Hopefully they'll be able to get someone more experienced to help with that for future episodes.

Credit where credit is due: I enjoyed the pilot. It could do with less stuff you have to pause to see, like the toxic theme park forever chemicals causing bot only blue lung but birth defects, but I guess it's taking advantage of the Youtube medium so it's not inherenrly a bad thing. The style of exposition was good and made me feel immirsed in the world instead of having shit explained to me for 30 minutes straight. I'm glad subtlety isn't dead and it does feel weird to say that about an EVIL DISNEY show.

After all the kiddy mascot horror shit it's a breath of fresh air to see "creepy evil Disney" but for an adult audience, and handled pretty well at that.

Since every post in this thread was more positive about this pilot than I expected them to be, I decided to watch it as well.

It was surprisingly decent. I didn't enjoy the first half, but it got better by the second half. The animation looked nice, and the pacing wasn't bad either; it was surprisingly straightforward with everything, and I liked that. The brown lesbian was rather insufferable at times, but I found the fat lesbian to be way more likeable (I wouldn't have sex with either of them). I also think it hit the right spot with its vulgarity; swearing can make the characters feel more realistic if done right, and luckily they didn't go full Vivzie with it.

The world-building itself seems to have a few flaws in my opinion. If they live in a world with advanced robotics and faster-than-light space travel, then why the fuck are they still using human labor and fossil fuels? I know it's a common trope to have cyberpunk dystopias with a poor lower class, but they always seem to underestimate that with faster-than-light space travel, you gain access to a huge amount of planets, and many of those are rich in resources. It should be stupidly easy to flood the market with so many robots that getting a regular job as a human would become impossible. Fossil fuels should also be non-existent since there's no way they would be able to outcompete futuristic fusion reactors fueled by cheap intergalactic hydrogen. We have yet to learn why Guineapig is so important, so I don't criticize stuff related to her for now.

The Hungarian dub wasn't bad either; they did a good job as always. The best thing about it is that I didn't need to hear the original/English VAs talking (they're either retarded, insane, or both).

Maybe that technology is expensive of controlled? If a whole planet could be a private amusement park then it could be a corpriticracy where advanced tech is prohibitively expensive or under licensing terms. Maybe one organization controls all space travel, and maybe robots cost just enough that they get prioritized for the guest and the workers rarely see a working one.

It's like in the Star Wars sequels where they had that planet with all the rich people who had child slaves for whatever reason because I guess they didn't understand that slavery is only really a thing on the outer rim like Tatooine and it's only done by people who can't afford droids because why the fuck wouldn't you just buy droids instead if you're already rich?
As Not Plinkett said "They don't eat, they don't sleep, they don't complain, they don't need to go to the toilet." ect. It feels like a lot of writers don't understand the can of worms they open at times when putting certain things in their stories.

But how can we tell the rich people are evil if they don't use impractical slave labor?

Well, it's a horror series and in the pilot we saw that the pollution affects people causing them to hack up blue gunk. The androids/robots have blue organs. And since the show is a criticism of Disney, I think it's safe to say the Park consumes humans in some manner.

Not even a week after its premiere and they are already doing a merch sale IMG_9027.webp

Man, the plushes and the Guinevere animateez are ugly af. Should've just made better quality Guinevere merch cuz who tf is buying any of that other stuff. Even the Gaslight District stuff was more iconic. Plus it would've been ironic to go all out on Gwen with her different iterations since the pilot seems so anti-overconsumption. Would've made me lol.

I don't know why everyone in this thread gets pissy every time merch shilling comes up. While Glitch is backed with a lot of capital, it ultimately is posting its shit for free on YT. They are not paywalling you or demanding you buy a plushie before you can watch.

This is one of the few companies that should be getting a pass for hardcore merch shilling since it seems to be the only actual revenue source they have. There are actual problems with Glitch and its shows if you just want to bitch about them.

Yeah, I think I said before it's probably why they shill the merch so hard because beyond youtube ad revenue which is probably pennies in comparison the merch is probably the only way they make money.

There has to be a better business model cuz what is this? I haven't watched the pilot in full yet but I would be hard pressed to say these characters are iconic enough to buy standard plushies for.
Personally speaking, outside of the merch itself looking dull, this is probably the best way.

Fundraising, it can burn a lot of the audience. Patreon, most fall into the mistake of creating a "donate this and impact the show's story" tier. Networks, self-explanatory.

At least this way you get something for the money that might last you years.
We'll know KOG has made it when we see Temu and Amazon Gwen bootleg plushies.
Hell, the content farms are unironicaly going to love having a new princess character in the roster. Them alone might save the show if they start having audience issues.
