The Teamsters are striking at Yellow Corp. because Yellow are unable to pay their worker's pensions.

There's also a possibility that UPS drivers might strike as well.

I bet the most "pro-union" president is going to shut those strikes down just like he did with the railroad worker strike.

That's only gonna put a bandaid on cancer. Yellow is gonna go bankrupt. Its just a matter of when. Unless Biden wants to bail them out with more tax dollars.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if that was their goal, to force a bankruptcy of a major pension program to establish legal precedent that the state has to bail them out, whatever the cost - just so they can officially dust their hands clean of worries over all the other insolvent pensions forcing them to actually make political decisions.

i hope so. UPS is the largest carrier atm and if they were on strike, fedex and dhl couldn't take the load. i wouldn't want DHl to touch anything of mine and Fedex loves dropping up torn up boxes with "trust us we didn't steal anything" tape on it.

In much(most?) of the US DHL doesn't even do last mile delivery any more and hands it off to someone else, often USPS.

Pfizer's website says the plant produces a wide range of products, "including anesthesia, analgesia, therapeutics, anti-infectives and neuromuscular blockers." It said, "More than 400 million units leaving the Rocky Mount site annually help treat patients around the world."

Erin Fox, who runs the University of Utah's drug information service, has warned that the scarcity of drugs in the US has reached a nine-year peak. Currently, there are 309 drugs medicines in short supply, including 177 sterile injectables.

I feel bad for the people who genuinely need the drugs they're getting, but I have nothing but contempt and laughter for the people who just mainline a dozen pills a day rather than addressing any of the problems in their life, so I'm torn on this. Much like the plant.
Aside from the issue of learning coping mechanisms and self control, that's gonna be a while to fix that plant if ever.
I guess you could just by a Ukrainian pharmaceuticals plant in Kyiv and hope the RFAF doesn't blast it to shit.

I'm talking more about the folks who are borderline ADHD and instead of learning to sit down and shutup they got hooked on Ritalin (tm).

UPS workers likely to strike on Aug. 1. I
Collapse no longer imminent temporarily postponed.
UPS and the Teamsters have reached a tentative deal on a new contract. That could potentially avoid a strike, which could have started as soon as next week and crippled US supply chains.

“UPS has put $30 billion in new money on the table as a direct result of these negotiations,” said Teamsters President Sean O’Brien in a statement. “We’ve changed the game, battling it out day and night to make sure our members won an agreement that pays strong wages, rewards their labor, and doesn’t require a single concession. This contract sets a new standard in the labor movement and raises the bar for all workers.”

The deal comes as the American labor movement has grown increasingly energized and empowered. The pandemic sent lower- and middle-class US workers’ pay surging for the first time in decades, but contract workers missed out on much of those gains. That’s why unionized actors, writers, nurses and teachers have recently gone on strike, and UPS workers and autoworkers have threatened walkouts.

“Together we reached a win-win-win agreement on the issues that are important to Teamsters leadership, our employees and to UPS and our customers,” said UPS CEO Carol Tomé, in the statement. “This agreement continues to reward UPS’s full- and part-time employees with industry-leading pay and benefits while retaining the flexibility we need to stay competitive, serve our customers and keep our business strong.”

The tentative agreement still needs to be ratified by about 340,000 Teamsters at UPS to end the threat of a strike altogether. That ratification process will take a little more than three weeks. A no vote by membership could still trigger a strike, but that walkout would now take place in late August, not the original August 1 strike deadline.

Among the issues in the contract negotiations were air conditioning for delivery vans, demands for significantly greater pay, especially for part-time workers, and the closing of pay gaps between two different classes of UPS workers.

The two sides had previously reached agreement on about 95% of the contract, according to O’Brien, but talks broke down on July 5 over economic issues. They resumed Tuesday morning and quickly reached the tentative agreement. But details of the tentative agreement are not yet public.
