Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Long Live the King

So apparently there is additional detail in this movie that I didn't catch when I saw it in theaters.

Supposedly, when Ghidorah charges up by absorbing the power from the electrical lines in the final battle, you can see wounds on him healing, keeping in line with his ability to heal himself.

Guess I'll have to look out for it when I see the movie again.
Plus he was regenerating the parts of wings that were burnt off by Godzilla's first thermonuclear pulse. I'm sure the fight scenes have small details to look for on multiple viewings.

No word on a trailer yet (rumors are going around it's at the end of the month, but pressing X), however, it looks like toy designs got leaked.

That Nozuki thing eerily reminds me of Destoroyah. God I wish. Probably not happening though.

It looks more like Quezalcoatl to me, but apparently it's not. It does remind me of Airdramon, a Mythical Beast Digimon, so it is based off some kind of flying serpent.

It might be Xiuhcoatl, however. So I dunno, but I'm excited to learn more about it.

Some fans are believing Nozuki is a female because of the name, but I'm not really finding much to say for sure. It is a family surname, though (written as "野月").

So...

Kong has an axe...I love it!

In the article in the comments section, someone mentioned a friend pointed out the blade looks like one of Godzilla's spines. If so, that's so fucking cool, but it looks too crystalized to be a spine. Unless there's some chemistry/half-life breakdown involved in a separated plate crystalizing.

I'm thinking that is what may come about from the Ghidorah head shown in the end credit scene (unless it is used for a Mecha-Ghidorah).

Nothing yet, but I actually just learned that for the past couple of weeks there's been a Monsterverse Watchalong on Thursday nights. On the official Twitter and #MonsterverseWatchalong the directors and other guests have been giving live trivia that I think otherwise wasn't on the DVD commentaries (haven't watched the first Godzilla and Kong commentaries yet), and have also revealed some art concept that haven't actually been seen before. Just currently going through the backlog atm, but it looks a lot of fun. (From bottom-up, skipped a couple tweets.)

Concept art has been gathered here. This one's a personal fav.

Figured I'll spread the word this Thursday is KotM's watchalong on 5 PST/8 EST if you wanna catch Dougherty and others live-tweeting. Better late than never. Also probably to get some brief activity here if anything interesting comes up.

EDIT: Lol

EDIT 2: Okay I'll stop now, just have to link to this because of the replies (beware of uncensored Mothzilla porn like two comments below it like what the fuck it burned my eyes).

My eight year old has become a dedicated Godzilla enthusiast after I showed him Shin Godzilla, and this movie was essentially his idea of a perfect entertainment experience. He can’t wait to see him fight King Kong.

A couple of things bothered me about King of the Monsters.

I didn't like the way they unceremoniously killed off Sally Hawkins' character, I like that actress and was glad she was back, only to then find out she's barely in the movie, I was also disappointed that they killed off Ken Watanabe's character, although his death was at least more impactful and that David Strathairn only had a cameo, Godzilla 2014 had a great supporting cast and they're mostly wasted in King of the Monsters.

I also thought Boston was kind of a boring choice of city for the final throwdown, it should have been LA.

King of the Monsters definitely had some great moments, but overall I didn't like the movie as much as I was expecting.

Mike likes tragedy, so that's why he did that. Ken's sacrifice was also meant to be parallel to the original Serizawa's sacrifice.

That's why they picked Boston, because LA and New York and San Fransisco get destroyed all the time. For monster fans, it's an honor to have your city/town destroyed. That's why the Titans woke up in places you wouldn't have expected them to wake up/was done as a shout-out to Final Wars (a.k.a Scylla waking in Arizona is where Kumonga showed up in Final Wars, like fuck yeah).

Sometimes things are cliche for a reason, going the more boring route just because it's less cliche doesn't make sense to me.

Chicago would have been a good choice as well.

I'm assuming they're saving New York for Godzilla vs Kong since that's Kong's hometurf.

Chicago would be great, but they had to come in from the ocean, so that's why they went with Boston. Maybe if there's a tunnel in the hollow earth that leads to the Chicago area, they could go there one day.

I've noticed the movie wanted to play things up a bit more in the cliché department, especially when it came to the human antagonists like Emma. The Titans got the special treatment, of course, but I think that was more of an expansion on previous lore. Mike mentioned both in the DVD commentary and on Twitter tonight that by putting the "god" back in "Godzilla", it meant having to actually make him a god again.

In the past Toho movies (mostly early movies), Godzilla was mentioned to be a local god given physical form through atomic energy. They never really expounded on it, though, closest they did was GMK when he was practically a zombie possessed by tormented souls of Japan's victims up to WWII and the guardians had to come in to stop him because he was virtually indestructible. 2014's Godzilla didn't exactly call him a god, but it was mentioned his role in the ecosystem was to enforce Nature's balance which then was expanded upon in the sequel in that he is a living god worshiped but then forgotten. Then Shin Godzilla happened where he's basically portrayed as a force of nature again, but more of a godlike punishment, and not the benevolent kind, either.

Of the recurring kaiju, Mothra was the most consistent in that she's seen and worshiped as a goddess.

I'm assuming they're saving New York for Godzilla vs Kong since that's Kong's hometurf.

Only if Kong leaves Skull Island. They made it explicitly clear that if Kong leaves Skull Island, the people living there will die, but also the ecosystem will become more chaotic because of the Skullcrawlers going wild. It's implied in the novelization they were waking up from the alpha call but Kong still had to keep them in check.

So there'd have to be a good reason for them to leave and end up brawling in New York. If they choose to subvert the city expectations again, they might go for Seattle if they're going to stick to the Americas. But I think it's going to remain on an island in the Pacific if not Skull Island.
