Before going into the content of this blog, I think it's important to go through the about page.

Golbat saw a tumblr post saying that if you add the words “omnisexual” and “asexual” to the old queer acronym “GLBT,” you can make it spell “GOLBAT.” They, being a queer pokemon fan, found this amusing and quite apt, because many queer people, like golbats, tend to be angry at life and bite half the people they meet and confuse the rest. Thus, Golbats for Equality was formed, to create memes of angry queer anti-capitalist golbats protesting society and societal inequality. And then some other mods came along, and we decided to keep up the pokemon theme. (Golbat is still annoyed that they didn’t think of “Autistic Audino” instead of “Neuroqueer Nidoqueen.” It would have been perfect. Oh well.)

Classic tumblr "screaming in people's faces mentality" along with the bullshit "neuroqueer", raging anti-capitalist mentality (at this point I think it's obligatory for these kinds of blogs) ect.

If you wonder why this blog often posts in anti-equality tags, it’s because those are the people who most urgently need a golbat yelling social justice concepts in their face. These “target tags” are always the first 5 tags, and are about who we want to see things, not what we agree with. We switch up these tags from time to time.

What they actually mean is that they spam up tags like "Libertarian", "Gamergate" and "Capitalist" to try to spread their message. You will notice this to an autistic degree on their posts. Because these things apparently are anti-equality?...

They currently have four characters/memes:

• Equality Golbat
• Neuroqueer Nidoqueen (humorously the mods dispute over what "neuroqueer" actually means)
• Asexual Glaceon
• Bisexual Bisharp

(pronounced “choomruh”) A cishet white male who is rich and abled. Or, anyone likely to have at least half these traits. A more specific synonym for “privileged.” Yes, I (Mod 1) made up the acronym. Yes, the “mra” part is intentional. We, and especially the Equality Golbat meme, needed a word for “privileged” that pointed out just who was privileged, and we will be using it. Get used to being an acronym, chwmras.

It seems like they've gotten a new mod since the last time I've visited here, but the first two mods on their page are pretty much huge lolcows. I've had repeated run-ins with Fisty and Latinist . It's pretty damn stupid to post links to personals on a blog this controversial but whatever.

So lets get our hands dirty and see what we've got here. Not every meme is completely terrible but most of them are either completely retarded, delusional or even offensive.

Spoiler: Apparently there are as many intersex people as redheads in the world

Equality Golbat: “There are as many intersex people as there are redheads. Funny how no one is asserting that black, brown, and yellow are the only hair colors.”

The difference of course is that red hair is visible, obvious, and rarely “corrected” so it’s an undeniable fact. Genitals on the other hand are hidden, so you can pretend that no one is on the bottom of the bell-curve.

Oh yeah, and we have some really weird ideas about genitals, sex, and gender, and if we admitted that there are more than two sexes, we might have to admit that there are more than two genders.

Equality Golbat: “Sapiosexuality is not a real thing. You’re just ableist.”

Sapiosexuality is defined as attraction to intellect. Well, let’s stop right there, because intelligence is an ableist construct, so if you even believe that intellect is a thing, you are ableist.

If you aren’t radical enough to accept that, consider this analogy: Imagine I told you I’m attracted to all genders, but just not to any Asian people. Would your initial assumption be that I just have a subconscious sexual “picker” with arbitrary preferences, or would that make me sound really racist? “I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with Asian people, I just get really turned on when people pull their eyes open vertically…“

Also consider that “sapiosexual” is never used as an antonym, because no one ever identifies as being attracted to “low intelligence”, incompetence at tasks, and more apparent disability. The closest we get to that is fetishization of physical disabilities.

…and just to head off complaints before they come (though I know they will come anyway), no, I am not saying that disabled people are stupid. I am saying that “stupid” is a concept invented and defined by ableists with the express intent of devaluing (mentally) disabled people. Therefore, the only ways to argue that (mentally) disabled people aren’tstupid is to either say they aren’t really disabled, or reject the entire notion that “intelligence” is a thing. I opt for the latter.

Spoiler: FUCK YOU FOR NOT BEING ATTRACTED TO TRANS PEOPLE

Equality Golbat: “’Cis people only’ is not a real sexual orientation. You’re just a transphobe.”

The notion that one’s sexual orientation according to gender could distinguish between trans and cis presupposes that trans female is a different gender from cis female, and trans male from cis male, which is simply false. Female is female. Male is male. Technically nonbinary people are all automatically trans, but nevertheless there are trans people of all genders, and some with no gender, who are indistinguishable from cis people. Furthermore, from a practical standpoint you usually cannot tell what sort of genitals a person has at the point when attraction occurs.

Neuroqueer Nidoqueen: “I don’t want to be treated the same. Treat me differently in a way that respects me while also accommodating my needs.”

The narrative that “we’re all the same on the inside” doesn’t work for everyone. Some of us are actually different. “Different, not less” is our narrative. We need those differences acknowledged, respected, and accommodated. “Treat everyone the same” is the disability equivalent of “I don’t see race.”

Note: while disability accommodations are understandable, accommodation for a disability is completely different than just treating people differently. Accommodation allows disabled people to be able to work around their disability and reach near-abled functioning.

An example would be this. If you had a blind person, an accommodation would be giving them a braille display so they could take notes in class. Treating them differently would be saying that they deserve some special privilege, such as getting a higher grade than others, solely on the merit that they're blind.

Instead, Nidoqueen here is arguing that disabled people should be treated as special snowflakes.

Equality Golbat: “When disabled people can still be declared ‘mentally incompetent’ or have their Social Security benefits revoked, it’s ‘same-sex marriage’, not ‘marriage equality’.”

You don’t get to claim the “equality” label when there are still people who aren’t equal. Disabled people still face obstacles to marriage, including consequential ones that are not only lawful, but legally imposed.

A normal day for me might look like: Wake up, answer emails for a nonprofit, go to a rally with signs and chanting, live-tweet about the rally, host a debriefing session among the rally organizers, meet with legislative staff to support a bill, go home, write about privilege on Tumblr.

Then I get called a “slacktivist” because I used Tumblr to relax at the end of a busy day. How do emailing, tweeting and tumbling invalidate everything else I do? You are accusing me of not being a “real” activist when I literally also do the things you consider “real” activism. Don’t blame me; I’m not the one who constructed the false dichotomy here.

Language was invented to fulfill a need, and it will continue to evolve for the purpose of fulfilling newly discovered needs. Words signify concepts, allowing efficient communication that shorthands concepts instead of reintroducing them in every sentence.

In “caveman” days when the world’s first spear was constructed, no one said that early language’s equivalent of “What the fuck kind of stupid-ass name is spear? We already have the words stick, rock, andsharp, jackass. You can’t just make shit up like that.” Nor did anyone insist we call it a “big box that uses tiny lightning bolts to do multiple things” instead of recognizing that the new concept of a computernecessitates a new word to refer to it.

Why then, do sociological concepts have to meet an extra standard, being known by an arbitrary number of people for an arbitrary amount of time, before they stop being “jokes”?

The male-female binary is a very white/European construct. Many cultures have recognized three or more genders historically, not just contemporarily.

Binarism is an example of a system whose various definitions seem to refer to gender when really it is at least as much about racism. Often said racism takes the form of overt violence, such as the native American concept of “two-spirit” being almost entirely erased by, y’know, killing the native Americans.
